Alright, first post, so cut me some slack if someone else has already beat me to this.
I've read a lot of theories about Chalres Widmore becoming romantically involved with Eloise Hawking and therefore fathering Daniel Faraday. I agree with some of those theories, but disagree that Widmore fathered Daniel. I think Widmore is Daniel's Uncle. This is of course assuming several things;
1) "Ellie" (the blonde rifle-sporting-reminiscent-of-Alex-and-sling-shot chic) grows up to become Elosie Hawking, the lady in the hood with the Foucault Pendulum, who also occasionally acts as some sort of "Time Police" (think Desmond in the Diamond store)
2) Mrs. Hawking is in fact Daniel Faraday's Mother.
There is a good amount of evidence supporting this:
She is is L.A. where Widmore said she would be.
Daniel's Lab Rat, whom he seems to care about (fondly held it to his cheek) is named Eloise.
She perhaps became interested in Time travel and the study of it because of her encounter with Daniel and Sawyer- Time Travelers- as a young girl back on the island. Perhaps she leaves the island and begins researching this subject, has a child -Daniel- and begins training him to understand these concepts, as well as teaching him everything she knows about the Dharma Initiative- Maybe she even gives him her notebook? Or perhaps she realizes that the Daniel she ran into when she was 16 yr. old was actually her son, so she "feeds" him the info he will need to connect the dots and get back to the island... I don't know... room for tweaking. But I think it's a safe beat that she IS, in fact,Daniel's mother.
Now, lots of people have pointed to that brief exchange of young Widmore and young Ellie when Widmore came running back into camp as proof of a romantic relationship. Widmore says "I was caught, we were outnumbered" Ellie (a bit facetiously): "Outnumbered Eh?" Widmore: (a bit childishly) "Shut up, Ellie!" To me, this exchange seemed much more like something between a brother and sister instead of between two people who are or will soon become romantically involved. Maybe if there were 8 yrs. old and 6 yr. old we could say,"Hey, they are flirting!" but these are teenagers and they are reverting to acting much younger, picking on each other and bickering- so I say, "Hey, maybe they are siblings!"
Lost certainly has several themes about siblings, and especially brothers/sister; Jack/Claire, Boone/Shannon, Juliet/whatever her sister's name was... so maybe now we have a new pair Widmore/Hawking?
Even more interesting to think they become rivals and Hawking starts helping Ben...
I'd also like to point out that some people keep making reference to that photo of the blonde woman in Daniel's Lab and trying to make a connection with Ellie/Eloise. I think this is an entirely different person named THERESA!
