Time can not be changed, becuase there is nothing to be changed.
The Rules of Time: If someone was to travel to the past, then they would be repeating what had already happened when they came back from the future.
example:
A man is mysteriously murdered in his house and no one knows how the crime was commited and who commited the crime. 20 years later you buy his house. You build a time machine and travel to the exact day that the man was murdered, when its the man's house, and he attacks you. You kill him out of self defense, and suddenly jump back to the future.
You never changed anything by traveling to the past...
because it already happened...
(i know this isn't the best example but its the best i could do)
I would aslo like to point out what seems to be a mistake on the writers part,
the time jumps are occuring on the island and sawyer, juliet, dan, miles, and charlotte are at the imploded hatch. meanwhile Locke is at the place of the carrier plane crash site, the plane seems to be just as Locke and Eko left it after the moved it from ontop of the dharma station, and if i remember correctly Charlie and Eko burn the plane in a season three episode sometime. So the left behinders are sometime after the implosion of the hatch but before the burning of the plane. Therefore Rose, Bernard and Red Shirts should be on the beach, but so should all of the survivors of the plane crash becuase they should exist at that point of time, or at least the camp should. Time shifts again before Sawyer's group returns to the beach so we were never shown the camp but i doubt Rose and Bernard's group had a run in with their previous selves and failed to mention anything, maybe its a mistake im not sure)
