I’ve been feeling for a while Charles Widmore and Christian Shephard are connected somehow. I’ve actually been thinking for awhile that the two of them are actually brothers and maybe children of this “Jacob” person or Hanzo. After watching “Jughead”, I feel like this is starting to come together and make more sense. If you compare it to the Biblical story of Jacob and his brother Esau, it starts to seem possible. You may remember I got the Jack/Claire sibling theory right in December of 2004 on Lost-Forum, and I believe that Daniel and Penny are siblings too, so now here’s my theory on how the Widmores and Shephards are part of the same family.
“The Lord said to Rebekah: ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.’” – Genesis 25:23
This story starts with two brothers, much like the Jacob/Esau story in Genesis where the oldest was supposed to get Isaac’s birthright, or the promised land of Israel. Jacob, who was the younger, was prophesied to have the inheritance. However, Isaac believed his oldest Esau would get it. One day, Jacob, with the help of his mother Rebekah, tricked Isaac with his blindness into thinking he was Esau and Jacob got the birthright. Now let’s go into the LOST version of this story.
“Jacob” or Hanso, whoever you want to be the father, had two sons which would later turn into Charles Widmore and Christian Shephard. Charles was the oldest and was being prepped to take over for his father. Christian, the younger of the two, rebelled even though the Island does in fact belong to his family line. The two siblings fought constantly, Charles being boastful and Christian jealous. Christian ended up leaving the Island and went to LA, dishonoring his father and wanting to start a life of his own. Going back to the Bible prophecy, it fits with the brothers’ families being separated.
At this time, I think around when Locke showed up in 1954, the father then had to prep Charles for his leadership role. Thus why Charles says the Island is “his”. Locke comes and starts to disrupt it when he says “Jacob” chose him and sent him. Complicating things further, Charles starts a relationship with Ellie, who turns out to be Ms. Hawking, and she gets pregnant with twins. They turn out to be Daniel and Penny. At this time something happens to make Charles get banished and his father orders him to be banished from the Island. Either by the wheel or something else, Charles leaves and time jumps to the mid-later 1960s. But he and Ellie have to separate the twins for their safety. Ellie gets Daniel to the US, and Charles takes Penny to the UK.
Meanwhile, Christian finds out he can do pretty well as a doctor and takes that profession now in 1960s LA. He meets and falls in love with Margo, and they get married and have Jack. But Christian is haunted by his past and turns to drinking. He turns into a Don Draper (Mad Men) like character and starts to have numerous affairs; still having to hide his past from his wife, son, and co-workers. In the early 80s, he meets an Australian women named Carole and she becomes pregnant with Claire. Christian can’t have his past found out and to keep his daughter safe, he ends up helping Claire and Carole in Australia, but can’t be a part of his daughter’s life. He tries to be for a few years, but tells Carole to make Claire think he died and tries to go back to his life in LA.
Charles never gives up looking for the Island or his younger brother, who Widmore now believes will try to take the Island away from him again. By this time he knows about Ben Linus and his role as leader. He vows to get back to the Island by any means necessary, including paying his unknowing son Daniel to find the Island, and kill his brother if he has too.
Which all leads up to Christian going back to Australia to find Claire. Someone is now after his family and he’s trying to keep her safe. However, Charles finds Christian and kills him, going to another Bible story about Cane and Abel. Jack finds his father’s body, and he gets on the plane, not knowing his pregnant sister Claire is on board.
Which leads us to the Island. Christian is revived by the Island and reunites with his father. “Jacob” then uses his son to help train the next in line for the Island, Jack. However, Jack still wants to get off the Island, not knowing it’s his destiny to have it. This disappoints “Jacob”, seeing his grandson do anything to get off. They realize that Ben is going to turn the wheel and Aaron needs to get off the Island. Aaron is now next in line to inherit the Island. They devise a plan to get Claire on their side, keeping her safe from the time traveling, which leads to Kate and Jack raising Aaron in LA.
Which leads us to now. Ellie has switched sides and is helping Ben find his way back to the Island and to get the Oceanic 6 back. Jack and Aaron have to go back to their Island as a part of their destiny. But now that Desmond and Penny have a child, the rivalry starts back up and when Widmore finds out about his grandson Charlie, he’s going to try to use his grandson to get control of the Island again.
So it all comes down to who then inherits the Island. Is it Aaron or Charlie? This is what I think will lead us to Season 6. The epic show down between the 2 brothers and their families. Theory by Buffyfan145
