So my new crazy theory is that the millions of years ago an asteroid hit the earth, wiping out the dinosaurs. But it was not just a hunk of rock, but a reminant of some alien culture charge with exotic matter.
When it struck the earth (In Africa), it fracture time and space and so remained an anomoly seperate from the normal flow of time on the earth. Slowly over time it picked up more mass from dirt, wind, water, etc and became the island. Its presence was also the origins of humans, making it the cradle of life/garden of eden. Tying in with the islands healing properties. There have been a lot of hell/purgatory theories over the years, but I think the island is actually paradise. Since then it has moved from Africa (after the drug smuggler plane landed there)
I also think one of the places the island can move to is in the middle fo the Himalayas, and the island is Shangri la. The novel/movie 'LOST HORIZON' is obviously one of the big inspirations for LOST the tv series, as there many many parallels.
The Smoke monster is an entity or device that came with the alien rock to the earth.
I also think Jacob is Jack from the future travelled back for some reason (most likely selfless). My reasons for thinking so:
-There's no reason to NOT show what Jacob looks like if he's not one of the existing characters
-Jack is a short form for Jacob
-The two people we know of who are presently in the Cabin are Jack's father and sister
-The Expose episode had the whole Mr. LaShade = the cobra, which could be seen as a wink of Jacob being Jack. Although admittedly that could also have been hinting at the Widmore = big baddie reveal
-Jack miraculously healed Sarah. Jacob is also said to be able to miraculously heal
-Jack's true identity as defined by the Tattoo artist: "he walks among us, but he is not one of us" meaning he is a great leader, but is isolated as a result
