In short, we've seen a young Widmore already this season. You just didn't know it. Don't worry. I didn't either until just now. I'll explain.
I believe the rain of arrows we saw last night were the result of an attack by the hostiles. It had to be them. Moments later we saw Dharma treking through the woods with guns, and I'd wager they were searching for the hostiles. The leader of the Dharma group asked Sawyer how he'd gotten to the Island, and it's my firm belief that the Dharma guy assumed that Sawyer was also part of the Hostiles.
Now if the Hostiles were of the Black Rock crew, it would make sense that the Dharma guys might not have expected them to suddenly be on the island, or know how they got there if they didn't yet understand the implications of turning the wheel.
Two Things on Alpert. A - We Know he's a former hostile, and B. He just told Locke that the next time they saw eachother, Richard himself wouldn't recognize Locke. Now that Locke has come tramping out of the woods to save Sawyer and co. what do you bet they run into the hostiles and come face to face with Alpert.
This fits nicely with a theory I had previously that Locke would meet up with Alpert in the past, although I did think the modern day Alpert would go back into the past with Locke. Regardless I believe we're about to see Locke meet up with the hostile version of Alpert and convince him to go and find Ben Linus. You know, the one we've seen Alpert find as a young boy already. I'm saying the Locke is the one who sent Alpert to find him.
Now about this Widmore business I mentioned. There was an awfully ruthless and english accented leader of the group of others I'd mentioned just a few paragraphs up. Seem familiar?
