Warning: this isn't really a very advanced theory, just some interesting correlations I noticed. In Episode 5.02, Mrs. Hawking is doing work on the computer, and a screen comes up that says "Event Window Determined". I searched for event window, and found nothing, but did find a definition for "Event Horizon", which incidentally is linked to the theory of Hawking Radiation, developed by Stephen Hawking, which is especially interesting as we know that Mrs. Hawking's name is a nod to his. This theory has to do with black holes. According to Wikipedia, an event horizon is a "boundary in space time, an area surrounding a black hole, inside which events cannot affect an outside observer" (Faraday's reference to "we were inside the radius" comes to mind - they were in the event window). Wikipedia goes on to say that "Anything that passes through the (event) horizon from the observer's side disappears". With a little mo! re research, I found that the relativity equation for event horizons is Gμν+Λgμν=8πG/c4(Tμν).... In Faraday's journal, one of the pages shows a formula that looks rougly like Gμν+GμνΛ=8πGT then something we can't read.... which looks like a portion of the relativity equation, with a couple of characters just flopped around. All of this to say that I think Faraday has discovered that the island is disappearing in black holes and has figured out all the physics and mathematical backgrounds for it but can't stop it from happening on his own for whatever reason, and Mrs. Hawking is somehow involved in it. However, it also seems that either Faraday is ageless like Richard or that he has figured out how to use the black holes to travel to different times in the history of the island. This is where it all gets fuzzy... I can see all the physics-based facts that make this all up, but don't know quite what to do with them yet :) If anyone has any thoughts on this, plea! se post them - I'd love to see where this might go!
Also, I really think that Miles must be Dr. Chang/Halliwax/Candle/whatever's son.... Not only the baby in the very beginning of the first episode last night, but also the fact that he wants to stay on the island and knows that Charlotte was there before. Just a thought!
