Ok, so I posted a while ago regarding the casket and Darlton's explanation that they filmed three different people in the casket because "They wanted to spoil the spoilers" But I have a different idea, which is a theory about alternate endings....
Notice how carefully the alternate endings are filmed, sound is perfect, lighting is perfect; it could really be a scene in the show. I think, based on the production values, this was NOT done to fake out the spoilers, but because Darlton hid their plans in plain sight to really spoil the spoilers.
Even though Faraday says that you can't change the future, I believe he is partly lying about this, as is Darlton.
Maybe you can't change the future, but how the future comes to be could be altered depending on what you did in the past.
I think that Darlton filmed three different people in the casket because we are dealing with three potential futures, one in which Locke dies, one in which Sayid dies, and one in which Desmond dies.
I think the reason Jack is so miserable, is that he was the one who had to 'decide' who would be 'Jeremy Bentham' and thus die.
Jeremy Bentham is a pre-determined alias agreed on by the Oceanic Six for whomever will leave the island and change the future by their sacrifice in dying.
I know this theory is not fully worked out, but those of you reading can elaborate on this and we'll see if over the course of the next two seasons, we find out not WHO is in the casket, but who jack will CHOOSE to be.
