Thinking aloud. Michael couldn’t kill himself because the “Island wouldn’t let him.” I have already submitted a theory a few back stating that it’s not so much that the island wouldn’t let him, but that there are a least a few elements of the show that exist on a time loop and that Michael effect some of those prior to his death on the freighter, meaning that he couldn’t have killed himself before then.
I went on to surmise that Ben likewise is in someway aware that he has effected events that we consider to be in the past, by something he has done in the future and thus has put himself in danger a number of times knowing that he couldn’t have possibly been hurt or killed. That explains his confidence in situations like being tortured by Sayid in the Hatch.
And of course we know all about Desmond and his knowledge that certain events are unavoidable due to universal course correction. Again I say that this course correction is more explainable along the lines that there are certain outcomes that have to exist.
To add to these ideas, there is a theory just below that reminds us of the idea that Ben cannot kill Widmore. Why is that? We’ve heard that before when we knew Michael couldn’t kill himself. So it would be sensible to say that Widmore must effect some outcome that is unavoidable. Now if you understand what I’m trying to say you’ll understand that this is not the same as destiny, but rather that he couldn’t possibly be killed now if he has committed whatever act in the future. It would be like saying you had committed suicide 3 years ago. Obviously you didn’t if you’re sitting here reading this.
The theory continues that Widmore fathered Ben in the past. And continued discussion suggests that as we watch the events take place in the show, he has yet to do that. So Ben can not have killed him yet, as Widmore has not yet gone back in the past to father Ben.
I then wondered about the significance of Aaron. He’s special we know. But why? I’m proposing that he in fact is the father of somebody we know, or perhaps the grandfather of somebody we know. Just thinking about that made me realize that half of his significance stems from the psychic prediction that he must be raised in a good environment under Claire’s good influence. But Why? The answer is the same reason any mother should want to raise their child under a good influence. Because they want their child to grow up as a good person.
So what’s the point? There is a possible scenario where Aaron could merely grow up to effect future events, but Aaron is very young and Lost has never focused on the distant future. It would seem to be a leap to expect it to do so now by showing the effects of either an evil or purely good Aaron 20 years from now. I guess maybe.
More likely I really think he has been a part of the past and in fact fathered somebody we know. So we’re left with 2 other choices. Either he was raised good or bad. To keep it simple we could just say how he was raised could significantly changes the actions of a character we already know, perhaps lets say if Aaron fathered Widmore (creating an interesting link between Christian, Claire, Jack, and Ben) and he’s raised good instead of bad then perhaps Dhamra never exists and Ben doesn’t commit the purge. Maybe if he fathered Locke’s father (again creating an interesting link between Locke and Jack, etc.) then maybe Locke’s actions are completely altered.
Or perhaps Aaron is an individual entity, maybe even Jacob, and his decision for good or evil will effect all.
I have a conclusion on the tip of my tounge, but I think the short of it is that if Aaron is going to be significant, he’s going to have to be significant in the past and not the present or future. And if that is the case, then how has he effected past events?
