I’m relatively new to the lost world and have just finished watching season 1 through to season 4, so sorry if this seems a little ridiculous or lacking in detail/knowledge. But I just kinda thought someone might understand what I’m getting at so I decided to post this theory.
Ok so as its been stated in a few theories that Cuse mentions on the subject of Jacob “ names are not assigned without a reason.” So although this may sound a bit basic I believe Jacob to be the unstuck conscience of Sawyer, Locke and Jack.
The main reasons for this is that the “Jacob” is derivate of James, John and Jack. My friend came up with this idea and as we expanded on it, it seemed to make more and more sense. At one point on the island all three characters have undertaken a leadership role, they appear the natural born leaders of the island. If you think back Locke and Sawyer both overcame what was haunting them (Anthony cooper/Tom Sawyer) but Jack is a little more stubborn and cannot let go of himself/his past. So I believe the island has sent him away essentially to be reborn and to recognise his destiny, lose the science and gain the faith.
If you look at the flash of Jacob in “the man behind the curtain” you can see qualities of each character, not sure if it’s just coincidence but we seem to have the long hair (sawyer), the beard (Jack) and the receding hairline and similar facial structure of Locke.
This would explain why THE BAD THINGS HAPPENED, if jack is apart of Jacob it would make sense for him to be apart of the island constant, which is why the island will start to drift in and out of timelines in season 5 without Jack there. I believe Jack will have to get back to restore “real time” to the island.
I have also noticed that with the Jacob trio, all the known male family members of theirs are on the island, with sawyer he has no male family members that we know of, but Locke’s dad was killed by sawyer on the island and Christian is lurking around Jacob’s Cabin and popping up here and there in his tennis shoes. Also the only other remaining male family members of jack’s family that we know of his is his cousin Aaron. Who currently isn’t on the island but was born on the island which could give him a “get out of jail free” card.
