Okay, there have been many question bout the Season 2 stuff about Ben, Locke and the stuff that happened in lockedown., so heres my theory on how events played out.
We learned in Season 4 that Richard wanted Locke to come to the island. My guess is that Rickard knew what Locke was destined for. Maybe its writtin on the island somewhere, who knows.
So anyway Richard comes, administers the rest , Locke fails the test, but obviously the smoke monster drawying shows that Locke has potiental.
So, later Richard tries to draw him back there through school. It fails, and Richard is discouraged.
About this time, Ben shows up, and richard finds out he can see the spirit forms. So, he thinks hes found another chosen one, events proceed and Ben becomes the leader of the others because he can talk to Jacob.
However, Bens questionable decisions with the pregnany problem and moving into DHARMA homes have caused Jacob to lose faith. Eventually Jacob asks Ben for somthing. To bring John Locke to the island.
Ben refuses, and a few days later gets a tumor on his spine. Locke arrives on the island on his own way(Because somhow somway it was his destiny to come)
Much later, Jacob orders Ben to bring him Locke. Ben, agrees because he knows Jacob might kill him if he doesnt(with the tumor)
So, Ben sets out with a fake allias of Henry gale, hoping to walk into the camp claming to be a ballon survivor, and calmy become friends with Locke.
What Ben DID NOT count on was getting caught in Rosseaus net and shot with an arrow AND having his other status revealed.
So Ben is brought to the hatch, torture bla bla bla things proceed as we know untill the Lockedown.
The food drop day has come, so the Swan Lockes down. For 2 reasons.
To insure People inside the hatch dont see the food being dropped AND to keep the pallet drop crew quarantened from the Swan crew.
This keeps up the Swan workers allusions that the outisde is dangeruous and sick.
Ben sees his chance to gain Lockes trust. He knows Locke can protect him and makes Locke promise to if he helps him later.
Locke sees the button program in work
and WORNGLY assumes not pressing it has the same effect as pressing 77 in the Flame. At this point, working in everything hes seen, Ben is finally able to fit his plan together. A plan to save himself, and kill off his rival.
Ben presses the button, and activates the blastdoor map in order to convince Locke to find the Pearl and think the Swan is fake. He also quickly sends a message to the other using the Swans computer and tells them what to do.
Ben knows that hes gonna be rescued, and knows Locke wont look for the Swan untill hes out of the hatch. He also sees that Jack hates the hatch, and odds are it will be easy to convince him to leave.
So, now that Bens status as an other is revaled, he plants the seeds of dout about the hatch.
Later on Ben gets rescued. Locke finds the pearl and the convientily placed video. Locke decides to stop pressing the buton, and Michael leads the 4 on Bens "Save his own butt" list to the ambush point.
It has been asked many times why Ben wouldent leave the island for treatment, the reason? He wantedt he healing properties of the island, on his side and NOW he had a doctor to remove the tumor without Jacobs help. Basicly it was so he could kill Locke, and still get healed.
However, the failsafe key is used, and the island protects him from the explosion. Even worse, untill Locke makes his way to the others camp, the island does not heal his wounds. Ben is finally starting to realise that not just Jacob, but the ISLAND ITSELF wants to replace him.
Ben repeadly challengs Locke, but he passes every test, killing his father, talking to Jacob, and even proves the island is protecting him!
Ben finally realises whats going and understands hes being replaced. However, as punishment for trying to kill Locke behind Jacobs back, Jacob banishes him from the island by making him turn the wheel.
Basicly, everything so far Ben has done, is to say in command. He wrongly thought Jack being dropped on the island proved he would remain leader. Instead, Ben needed to live long enough to turn the wheel.
People also ask how he can be such a master planner and why everything works out, well the asnwer is, when your IN the islands favour you have super luck. Ben doesnt always 100% know whats gonna happen, he makes guesses, and the islands luck makes it happen. Its good Karma.
However, when Ben went againts the island wishes, he got tumors, others started dying, and heck his daughter even got killed. Now Ben is out on his own making his own luck.
Thats why I think this seasons Ben stuff will be the best, because everything hes doing is to get back INTO the islands favor. Hes on his own, no super island luck to help him or save his life.
