I mean lets look at the facts
-He came with DHARMA
-He used their gas to kill DHARMA
-He moved the others into the stations
-He uses the outside worlds technology to run a company and bring more members
-Used DHARMA's tech to try and solve the pregnancy problems
-Uses the Flame to find out about the survivors
-Tried to use Jack to heal his tumor INSTEAD of trusting the island to.
Basicly I think thats why they want to replace Ben and why hes made so many errors in the past. Hes too much a man of science and not a man of faith.
Things only slightly started to turn around when man of faith Locke arrived, and moved him out of the barracks.
So could that be even though he is Special, he is too much a man of science.
My guess is that the others were desperate for a new leader(Maybe the old one was widmore) and wanted somone new to lead.
He should have been trusting the island like Locke was, but he didnt, and THATS why Jacob got upset. Heck he even made Locke stop pressing the button, which revealed the island. Ben has made alotta mistakes, and my guess is that the island started to remove some of his island protection mojo.
This could also explain the dialogue in Widmores and Bens convo
1: "This island was mine Ben, Always was" =Widmore used to own the others
and a second one I discovered.
2: "Don't stand there, looking at me with those horrible eyes of yours and lay the blame for the death of that poor girl on me, when we both know very well I didn't murder her at all, Benjamin. You did. " = Widmore knows the rules and that Ben must have done somthing to upset the island, and THATS why the rules COULD change.
