Oh well here we go - this is a small part of my theory and I don't claim to answer hardly any of the questions that need to be answered! (there are hundreds)! But a small part of the mystery of Lost in my opinion, is the following:
There are two sets of all the passengers who were on 815, one set is really dead and have been drowned at the bottom of the ocean, the other set crashed onto the island and survived. Therefore now there is only one set,(the island set) still alive. I don't believe what Tom told Michael about a "staging of the crash" and digging up bodies to plant on a plane etc to make it look like everyone drowned. The electromagnetic force duplicated the plane and everyone on it, and both planes crashed. The difference was one plane went to the bottom of the ocean and the other plane crashed near the shore of the island, hence the survivors of 815.
The electromagnetic force and it's capabilities on the island probably started as experiments in duplication (rabbits were used) by the DI. They then progressed and expanded these experiments to achieve duplicating much larger objects, animals, and/or humans. Ben discovered the usefullness of this (probably by accident) as a child, and cashed in on the technology by using it to duplicate himself and could then transport off the island while at the same time still appearing to be on the island. This also applys to Ethan, Tom, Richard Alpert etc, who have appeared "off island" as well as "on island." I don't think they "time or space travelled", they have a duplicate who is linked to their original "body".
I quote Charlie " I am dead, but I'm also here"
They are all dead, but they are also still alive.
Which is why Locke keeps telling Jack that "he's not supposed to leave" because it's okay being a duplicate while trapped on the island, it's going to be a totally different scenario if some 815'ers return to the "real world". Because at some point in the future it will be discovered that they are all really dead in a plane at the bottom of the ocean!!
Let me know what you think!
