The significance of these numbers and why they keep showing up will, I reckon, be explained in Season 5, along with a lot of the other "coincidences" that we've seen.
I think they're going to be a key to the Losties going back.
Having to enter them so many times into the computer in the Hatch...
Hurley seeing them repeatedly in the real world and on the island...
I think the numbers are being placed there by someone or some people in order to ensure that the O-6 know them.
Perhaps there'll be some sort of code that they need to enter in order to go back to the island?
Regardless - I think that these numbers have been placed through time by someone to try to make sure that they're not forgotten... either by all of the O-6 or by just Hurley. Who could ever forget the numbers which they won the lottery with?!?
It was long ago suggested that someone intended Hurley to win the lottery so that he'd have money for something... perhaps the money wasn't the point at all, just that it was a way of making Hurley remember the numbers?
