First I must say this is a follow up to TRS10882 theory posted before mine. Scroll down and you should see it. If not here is the link. It is a great theory and maybe mine can add to part 2 and 3.

I would read TRS10882 first then mine, as it is what made me think of my addition to the theory. Sorry if it has been said before. This was my reply but it got a little too big and then bigger, you might need some time to read them both. Basically I commented and elaborated on certian apects fo TRS10882 theory.
Nice Theory TRS10882.
It got me thinking and did you ever think that the Donnkey Wheel was installed by the Black Rock People(BRP)? If you look at a high res pic of Ben turning the Donkey Wheel it looks like it has arm extensions or was constructed relativley recently. It could have been the steering wheel from the Black Rock or the idea came from it, then they installed arm extenstions or made it to turn it. Plus it looks out of place compared to ancient rock carvings to 1800s steering wheel. (I know that donkey wheels have been around since ancient times but on the island there are no donkeys and they do not need it to pump water from the ground, it rains every 5 minutes somewhere on the island)
Here is why I think this. Ockhams Razor, "All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best."
All you need to do is look through the history books. We know that the writers use real life history in the show, ie. John Locke, a real life philosipher.
Through out new world arrivals in history the new arrivals came to a new land and were greeted by the original inhabitants. The original inhabitants usually greeted the visitors, giving gifts, knowledge etc., but then were usually killed by physical force or disease, icons and idols were destroyed as well as the install of religion. Then eventually sometimes there was a truce or alliance. It happened to the Aztecs, American Indians, Mayan, Inca, African Tribes, Asian Tribes, etc.
I do think the idea that the island was just an island. And then it became what it is. And the first part of TRS10882 theory is on point.
So my thought is the Black Rock People (BRP) arrive to the island some how from the Original Inhabitans (OI) doing something with the Island properites. Maybe by moving the island some how(they could have been using a tree branch to do this) , and then bam, the Black Rock is in the middle of the jungle.
In the 1800s or for that matter any time, it would probably freak out the people, in this case BRP.
Then the OI find the BRP and greet them and give them food, gifts and show the Island secrets, just as in the history books. Maybe even the BRP are in the prophecy of the OI, we dont know this yet though. But it could be Jacob.,?
Now I think there was a time when the OI and BRP were ok with eachother but after a while it got bad, sound familiar? Locke to Jack.
The BRP got greedy and fight with the OI, killing some inhabitants and even possibly by infecting them with a "sickness"
like small pox. The BRP also defaced the ihabitants idols, like the 4 toed statue, blown up with Dyanmite.
And try to take the Island valuables, in this case its the island.
Eventually the OI defeat the BRP. But alot of things happened before that.
But maybe Jacob was against the BRP bad ways so the OI took him in as there messiah type.,? Like in the Last of the Mohicans.
More on Jacob later.
The BRP figure out the secrets even more and install the donkey wheel, its easier to use than a tree branch.
And then after installing the Donkey wheel, it is turned by someone from the BRP, maybe Magnus Hanso or someone else but the key is who ever turned it had the diary.
Whoosh, then that person is off the island with the diary. So now that person delivers the diary to the Hanso's. So it is like a new world discovery, the Hanso's have the rights to it.
But now comes the trouble to find this island. Since the newly installed donkey wheel has been turned it has "moved" the island and now cannot be found.
This takes us to Widmore, many speculate that he is a Hanso, but I dont think so but it doesnt really mater. He has purchased the rights to an Island or already owns it through birth right, if he is a Hanso. But why would he have to buy the diary at an auction? Either way thats why he tells Ben the Island is mine and you took it. Now you might say how would someone sell this wonderful island. I say, what island. Remember its never been found again at this time only talked about and in a diary.
Just like Atlantis, oh by the way I am willing to sell Atlantis for $100. Any takers? So when its found you can tell that person it belongs to you and they took it from you. Maybe they even have bugeyes so you can insert a nasty remark.
Ok, now I mentioned religion. Religion is always a touchy subject especially if it is a TV show broadcast to millions of people so the writers probably are not dwelling so much on this subject or are careful about it. You wouldnt want to turn away viewers because of a faith in a TV show, its about ratings.
But they have included some, they mentioned heaven and hell, Mr. Eko, Yemi and the Church. Plus Science vs. Faith is a major part of the show.
Maybe Jacob was the priest and he converted to the Island following faith.
But to stay true to history lets look anyway.
Probably in this case the BRP were some type of Christianity. But if all of a sudden you are in a ship and end up in the jungle, and you are someplace where crazy things happen, you might think of it as voodoo or the devil. Then that fear of the devil or maybe even the "science" of the island properties outweigh the "faith" of religion or God. Or they just werent around long enough on the island to install a religion. But as the writers do, by including Mr. Eko, etc. its their way to show it did exist on the island . So this is a way for the writers to not dwell on the religion aspect too much but still include it, see above paragraph.
This ties into the smoke monster. As I mentioned Voodoo or Devil aspect. It could have been summoned to protect the OI, and many of the BRP were wiped out. The smoke monster also learned as it could have killed OI or good BRP, and now scans before killing.
Also I think a majority of the BRP were wiped out in fighting with the OI or converted to the OI. Mainly Jacob. He is the one who is their messiah and is accepted by the OI. Jacob learns from the OI and then becomes the protecter of the Island and is granted the ultimate sacrifice to the Island and is the protecter/guider (which is now his current state).
Then the Dharma Initiative comes in to play, they got to the island from what I mentioned above about the Hanso Diary, WIdmore, Etc and the Isalnd was finally discovered again. So Dharma comes to the Island, but this time the OI are smarter from what they learned from the BRP(technology and experience) and will not greet the Dharma Initiative (DI). This time they fight back (with dyanamite from the Black Rock) and then claim Ben as another chosen one to protect the island. Another protector one from the invaders, just like Jacob. And then now Locke, another invader.
Also when we see Richard whe he meets Ben for the first time he is wearing old raggy clothes, many think he is from the Black Rock. I say no, he is OI, but have taken the BRP clothing. Now he wears DI clothing or modern time clothing. He was also very cautious with Ben, saying maybe in time he could come with them. This is the OI observing Ben and the DI.
So now with Ben on the OI side and the technology from the DI, the OI really use it to protect the Island. Maybe even more prophecies are being fulfilled like decendents and time travel, like Richard visiting Locke. Why? Dont really know.
But look at some aspects of Egyptian history. In Lost, we know that it ties into the show. There are the Egyptian markings on the door that summoned the smoke monster, we know that some mean underworld. But also the Egyptians were into afterlife and star travel to through the heavens. This could be Jacob, and time travel.
I also think that the whispers are all the dead from the islands history. They are now serving Jacob and helping him observe everything going on. And he is able to make the best possible decision give to the active leader.
This is probably all wrong but seems to make sense is some easy aspect of thinking. At least for me it does.
I am sure there are some holes but I think it ties into what TRS10882 said.
But back to Ochams Razor, this is taking the easiest solution. Wow I actually did learn something in College. All those history pre-reqs did mean something.
Seriously, take some stuff from history, real life people situations, sci fi and a cool island and you have yourself the best TV show ever.
Ok, I seriously need to get back to work.
Please fill in the rest. Just kidding. Comments good or bad are welcome.
I also might put Atlantis on Ebay. I will follow up with a post when I do.
