Ok, so tomorrow (10th September) the Hadron Chamber goes live. It has been delayed over and over. Now already many people are unsettled that it's potential to create a black hole could mean the end of earth. It will answer a lot of questions scientists have and will recreate big bang conditions. It may be scientists greatest accomplishment. They say it could explain everything, the universe and our existence.
So how does it tie in with Lost?
The Lost writers have already confirmed for us that the chamber is something they have been following. So perhaps we can assume that it will fit into the story arc and may just be what Dharma is all about. The shape of the chamber and the logo match up is once instance.
However, because Lost is still 2005 time it might be the case that the plight of 'the others' Ben, etc is that they are intending to stop the switch on, or know the consequences of the switch on. Maybe we can assume that the island has something to do with the collider, maybe this all ties into 'the game'. The stations could be the first thwarted (purged) attempt of the experiment. Maybe Richard is from a post apocalyptic future where the collider destroys all but a few survivors!! Ok maybe not, still the Hadron Collider is something to think about.
For example the chamber is chilled, well so is the island. The frozen donkey wheel showed us that, the moving of the island may be due to something smaller, and similar being inside the island. The chamber also uses the worlds biggest and strongest magnet in order to work...again another element, though not on that scale in the Swan hatch.
And with the odd things that may occur in the collider, that might explain some of the other Lost mysteries, like the quickened healing or the living for longer than expected. Or maybe the 'undead' characters, as the protons in the chamber may cause us to see other worlds around us. My thinking is that maybe the reactions of the island cause these characters to be seen where otherwise they would not. However characters do see unusual things while off island so this is not a strong point.
These things make it seem as though the island is maybe a mini Hadron Collider/particle collider of sorts.
I pretty certain that this is not the whole plot. But I do think that it will factor quite prominently. The collider itself tests proton particles and may even (accidentally) form a black hole, well with so many wormhole and blackhole theories it seems to fit their style of writing if not their plotline. How many theories in Lost revolve around black holes! Maybe when Desmond didn't enter the numbers he set off the proton reaction and the plane was pulled into that dimension. Which begs the question; was Dharma dealing with dangerous science? In secret on a far away island, perhaps all went wrong and Jacob is a scientist who was trapped in one of these dimensions.
And maybe grasping at straws here but I did find it amusing that on http://www.dharmawantsyou.com/site/index.php#/home they have test 3 with particles that you must AVOID colliding with. hmmm.
Also thought it was amusing that one of the scientists in the first video is called Alvaro. He appears in a lot of documentary videos about the tunnel.
Here are some informative videos about the Hydron Chamber:
