I think Lost is more than a confrontation between Light and Dark, Ying & Yang, but also predominantly about Nature & Science. They associated Nature with Faith but this is on a religious level. What I am talking about is the correlation between natural phenomenon and scientific ones. The Electro-magnetism of the island for example could be labeled as natural, and Dharma trying to harness it is the scientific aspect of it.
The island is a natural environment, arguably alive according to some, where men are using science as a way to control it. Smoky may be a natural phenomenon as well and Ben could exercise some scientific control over it.
The problem with pregnant women on the island is of the same nature.
So maybe Ben and Widmore also represent this Nature/Science relationship. I would see ben as the Nature side (he effectively stopped Dharma experiments) while Widmore is the Science part.
