Based on things I noticed in There Is No Place Like Home Part 1, I think it is pretty obvious where the island is going. It is going to move in time and most probably in space. I am not sure where the space is other than it is important that it be a different space then where it is now, but I believe that the time will be October 24, 2005 or possible a day or two before this.
The title of the final “There Is No Place Like Home” certain hints at the island move, in the Wizzard of Oz, the tornado takes Dorothy’s house to OZ lock stock and barrel. I think this is a hint as to what will happen to the island”
It is clear that in The Shape of Things to Come, that Ben has recently been “ejected” from the island. He is wearing an Orchid Coat and has the telescoping night stick in his pocket. Whatever is done to move the island in the season finally, I believe it will end in Ben putting on the coat, getting the night stick back from Locke (he handed it to Locke just before walking into the Orchid) and getting his arm cut (possibly in a struggle with Keamy). It will be interesting to see the reason why Ben had to eject during the moving of the island. Was is part of getting rid of Keamy, is he unable to go with the island, or does he want to get off?
I believe that the island will be moved to the same time as Ben’s arrival in Tunisia since this will work well with the timing of the narrative of Lost going into season 5. A lot of people have speculated that the island will go into the past. I think this is highly unlikely since it will be much harder to explain how the O6 can also get back in time without the island. There would also probably be some casting issues of showing people that have aged at a younger stage in life, additionally period piece set props may filming more difficult. Moving to the near future makes the most sense from a production standpoint. Also, the O6 flash forwards started sometime around Summer/Fall 2005 and have moved back toward Island time (with the exception of Ben and Sayid’s Flash Forwards). So it would make sense that the Island move forward to about the time of Jack’s “We have to go back” moment with Kate.
Another thing supporting the Oct. 2005 time is the coffin. If the coffin contains someone from the island, would that person have been “ejected” in a similar manner as Ben, but without the proper protocol? This setup of the “eject” could explain how this person got back to LA. I think it is going to be Michael, but I could see it being Locke. It would be a nice dichotomy if the two had to move the island together, but were both “ejected” in the process. However, it would be hard to explain how Locke’s body ends up in LA. The funeral would certainly have been a big media event if they knew who he was. But Michael has a fake passport and the name is one that was known at least by Sayid who would have presumably shared with the other O6. Some people say the coffin has Ben in it, we know it is not Ben or Sayid since we have seen flash forwards of this that would certainly be in late 2005 if not early 2006. The coffin will end up being as big a surprise as ! the spy on the ship. Everyone thinks its Michael and it is going to be Michael.
I suspect that we may see the timelines reversed next season with the island starting at the end of the time line for season 5 and the O6 starting at the beginning and working in the opposite direction with the Season ending the O6 arrival on the island.
