If we are going to talk about Jacob we have to start at the beginning. Right at the beginning, say, the arrival of it's first inhabitants. Let's go back. All the way back to March 22nd 1845, a British trading ship had just set sail from Portsmouth, England on a trading mission to the Kingdom of Sian (Thailand). (Theory part starts here) After travelling for a few weeks they reached land, when they ported at what should have been the Kingdom of Sian they found they had actually reached Papa New Guinea, to the dismay of the Captain. After setting sail from Papa New Guinea to return home to England a crew member reported hearing a strange set of numbers calling to him... these numbers were 4,8,15,16,23,42. The Captain after hearing the crew member's report asked what direction they came from, hoping to find an answer to why they had changed course without their knowledge and how these numbers could be heard. After changing course in the direction ! of the numbers they travelled for weeks. The crew grew angry with the Captain's choice of not returning home to search for a voice in the wind and overthrew him, the crew member who had heard the numbers just happened to replace him. This crew member was Jacob.
After deciding to turn the ship around the ship hit an electro-magnetic force. As the ship crashed onto land the crew were unharmed, they looked in bewilderment at this land. It was wild and untamed and seemed mystical. Immediately Jacob could see that this was his calling, his destiny. After settling down for a few years some of the crew began to change, along with Jacob, some experienced a change psychically and found they had an immense power to think. Eventually they found that their will was reality and they transformed into pure psychic beings. They were immortal and untouchable, they weren't visible to the human eye and all that could be heard to know of their existence was their mysterious whispers. These whispers predicted future events and tried to help their people against impending doom (and eventually they would speak to the others and losties but more on that later). Others began to believe, they knew things about the island. It's past, it's history. They were ! powerful in knowledge of the island and were able to see hot spots of electro-magnetism and other helpful places. They began to build monuments to the island. Temples, statues and buildings. They lived for the island and would die for it.
Jacob was revered as a god. He was the lord and saviour of the island and they loved him for it. They loved him because he had to be the ability to be both of these things. He could change between the realms of whispers and reality (more on this). He knew everything about the island, all that was and all that will be. He saw of the chosen one. The one who would one day save the island from the most terrible threat yet. He saw all. He was the true owner of the island for he was the island.
Some, however, did not change into these wonderful beings and went against Jacob. He banished them from his society and forced them to live in the jungle. For years the war between them continued. Jacob labelled them as "the hostiles" and they had found a way to use the island's natural defence for their own will. They had found a way to tame the island's own Smoke Monster. The Smoke Monster had once been a cloud of energy formed by The Island as a defence mechanism. The hostiles (led by Richard Alpert, the ageless other) had discovered a way to tame it by creating underground vents filled with an electro-magnetic container (it was at least 40 years after they crashed so they had a greater knowledge of the electro-magnetic effects of the island and electro-magnetism in the first place) which controlled the electro-magnetism and led it in directions around the island. This controlled the smoke monster by stopping it from going anywhere other than the intended direction. (Thes! e were later labelled Cerberus vents by DHARMA). They used the Monster against Jacob and his people and killed many of them. Jacob, in his anger, spoke to The Island and asked it to stop the hostiles from controlling the Monster. The Island only had once choice, it couldn’t kill it because it would leave The Island defenceless and it couldn’t pass control onto Jacob as it may corrupt him. It had to let it go rogue. The Island did so but at a cost, Jacob would have to be forever in servitude of the Island, Jacob agreed and The Island let the Monster go, now uncontrolled by anyone (even The Island) it would roam the Island killing anyone it deemed weak and afraid, after finding a way to break free from the vents it occasionally broke free, allowing it to kill anyone it could find (including Eko and the Pilot) until Jacob had enough time to fine tune the electro-magnetism to make it stronger so to control the Monster. After doing so Jacob was forced to leave his people and! take refuge in whatever places he could find (including Horac! e’s ge taway cabin) so that he could serve the Island by recruiting people who are good and worthy. After the end of the war between the hostiles and Jacob’s people, Jacob’s people would all transform into the whispers for the greater cause of helping the Island. After years of peace there was a disturbance on the Island. A group of researchers had arrived, they had picked up on it’s large amounts of electro-magnetism and sent a team in. After researching the Island they were warned off by the Smoke Monster but returned with many scientists and formed DHARMA. These people formed a defence against DHARMA so the Island spoke to Jacob so that he could initiate the plan they had all along. A last resort plan. The plan was to turn Richard Alpert and his hostiles to help the Island. After promising them a never ending life (even though they had been on the island for over a hundred years and none had died) and promising Richard more power the agreed to destroy DHARMA. This was the ! plan until Jacob saw the coming of the Chosen One. One who was born by an Emily, one who would kill his Father, one who would save the Island from the threats of DHARMA. DHARMA planned to use the Island for their own greedy needs; they were going to ravage and rape the island for their own gain. Richard was assigned the job of turning the Chosen One. After discovering his name was Ben Linus he told him of a plan, a plan to destroy DHARMA, but for this he had to be very patient and wait until the exact time when DHARMA were at their weakest. After killing them all he was thought to be the chosen one and assumed control of the hostiles for 12 years. They followed him as a demy-god and believed he was to lead them into glory and peace. Jacob however was experiencing difficulties differentiating between reality and the realm of the whispers. He could only come to reality for a short moment before being taken back to the realm of the whispers, he would later come to Locke for a ! few moments to ask his help in saving him from the changing re! alities, something which Ben (the false prophet) couldn’t do. Locke was recognised as the true chosen one and Ben was punished (the tumour on his spine, Alex’s death) he received nothing in return for his 12 years of work. What remained of the original hostiles (not killed by Jacob’s people or the monster) was a very small amount. Most of the hostiles had been recruited by the Island. And even some of DHARMA had been recruited. The hostiles habituated the buildings that DHARMA had built and took full control of the Island and all it’s properties.
This theory was fully by me and I received no help. Thank you.
