We all know Losties names are usually connected with real world history (Locke, Rosseau, Shepherd)
So the physicist, Daniel Faraday, is definitely related to real life dead guy Michael Faraday.

One of Faraday's crowning achievements was his discovery of "Faraday's Constant" (cementing the connection, as Dan's flashback ep is "the constant)
Although the actual constant in physics is some number related to moles or something, there are more interesting things about Faraday, especially "Faraday's Cage" a structure which blocks electromagnetic interference.
So - my theory is that someone the hatch/island was related to a natural Faraday Cage which explains why the island is undetectable except when the hatch blew (EMP detected in Antarctica [former home of Michael Faraday Research Station] EMP would be undetectable inside a Cage, so hatch blowing compromised cage).
Also, Faraday's other research deals with changes in time, which generates an electromotive force. Maybe the time travel is a result of this phenomenon, and also generates power for the Smoke Monster?
Not a lot of connections here, but I'm SURE the link between Daniel and Michael goes beyond the name of the episode.
