This isn't so much a theory as a bunch of predictions which I think could come into play in the future.
If we first deal with how Ben's future will pan out.
I think Ben will become overcome with his personal revenge mission against Widmore to kill Penny. It will become such a drive in him it will become his primary objective, primary over the Island.
The Others, Richard etc., will not share Ben's personal vendetta and so will resent his desire to want to act out his revenge. By leaving the Island, Ben is compromising himself and all the information he clearly has - he is obviously important and he is much more likely to be captured in the real world. Therefore Ben and the Others fall out over Ben's desire for revenge while the Others primary concern continues to be the Island and Ben ends up teleporting into the desert as we saw to do his mission solo... or as he ends up happening upon, getting Sayid to help him out with it.
The reason Ben is hurt when he teleports in is therefore because either the others have held him prisoner to prevent him going off on his revenge mission and he has had to escape, or because they actively attempted to stop him, or something along those lines. The parka could be a red herring, perhaps the Orchid operates at sub-zero temperatures.
Perhaps at the end of this story arc for Ben he will have to chose between killing Penny and satisfying his revenge, or protecting the Island in some way - perhaps there will be a Widmore-Linus showdown, or perhaps the scenario will involve Desmond in some way.
In Ben's place therefore, we will get Locke appearing as the de facto leader of the Others - being as he is able to communicate with Jacob. We would then see how Ben started off an innocent like Locke, but how over time he was forced into situations to 'protect the island' which caused him to do bad things and become who he is today, climaxing in the purge. Locke will go through a similar journey, indeed he has already started, killing his father and so on, and we will see a transformation in Locke which turns him into an 'evil' like Ben figure in the name of the good of the Island.
Locke would then he charged with doing something terrible 'for the Island', perhaps purging the remaining 815ers or killing Claire, or something like that. He would start doing it, but then, unlike Ben (who perhaps had to kill Annie?), stop himself. It would be then that he, and we, would realise that the Island was bad all along. We'd realise all along the biggest con of lost was thinking the island was good, when it was in fact bad and manipulative. Perhaps the reason the Island chose Locke to be its next puppet was on account of the fact it knew he had a history of being conned and also that he had a huge issue which it could exploit with the paralysis.
Locke would then, having made his decision AGAINST Jacob and the Island, turn against them and as Charlie says "save them all". The Island clearly has influence off-Island too, so Locke could likely sacrifice himself or something in order that everyone will be able to live safely off Island. In addition to this I imagine the other characters will play a role, and Locke will have to convince them that he is not a bad Other (he'd have done stuff that turned them against him) but a good person now and that they must trust him and that only by working together, all of them Jack, Locke, Sawyer and so on, can they finally defeat the Island and live out their lives off Island in peace.
