Christian Shephard is in on it, or the Battle of Generations
It seems to me that there is a struggle going on between generations. A lot of characters on the show kill their own parents and children, whether intentionally or not.
Examples: Ben's mother dies in childbirth, then he kills his father, and his daughter is killed while Ben's watching. John Locke's father tries to kill him. Then John has his father killed via Sawyer. Claire says she wishes her mother dead and then gets into a car accident which leaves her mother in a coma. Then Claire is faced with a decision whether to take her mother off life support or not. Claire's father wants her to kill her mother, but she refuses. Kate kills her father to relieve her mother. Also Walt's mother dies (from leukemia? but it's possible that it was something else, caused by Walt maybe, and that's why his adoptive father was so eager to get rid of him), and the babies "kill" their mothers on the island. Did I miss anybody?
This is an unusually high rate of family-related deaths and near-death accidents, and this must be somehow important to the overall story.
I'm thinking that Christian Shephard is a more important character than we are led to believe so far, and baby Aaron is special because he is his grandson. Somehow I see how Aaron's birth and Claire's mother in the hospital may be related. I'm not sure exactly how it is all related, but here is my theory. Christian knows that Claire one day will give birth to his grandson, who will be special. Somehow the fact that Claire gets her mother into a coma may interfere with baby Aaron's birth. Maybe Claire or Claire's mother have to die in order for Aaron to be born. Maybe Claire's mother was supposed to die another death, but now she is in a coma due to Claire's accident. Now it's up to Claire to let her go or keep her on life support.
Once Christian finds out that she is in a coma, he tries to convince Claire to let her mother go. He knows that if Claire's mother doesn't die, then it will be Claire whose life has to be sacrificed in order for Aaron to be born. Unsuccessful, Christian goes to plan "B" and arranges for Claire to get onto the island. For some reason he also needs his son there at the same time. So he lures Jack to Australia and then arranges for him to be on the same plane with Claire and his own body.
All 4 of them end up on the island together (Christian, Jack, Claire and unborn Aaron). Then Aaron is born, and Claire gets killed when her house explodes. Then Christian comes to Claire and tells her that now that she is dead, her mother will be cured, but she has to give up Aaron because he has some important work to do. Or maybe he tells Claire that Jacob will take care of Claire's mother, just like he cured Juliette's sister. As we see later in a flash-forward to Christian's memorial service, Claire's mother is alive and well, and so is Aaron.
I don't know why Aaron is special, and why it is that there seems to be an "eye for an eye" thing going on, but my theory is that Christian has been "in on it" the whole time, and didn't become enlightened after ending up on the island in a coffin.
It is also possible that Christian is responsible for Sawyer and Anna Lucia for ending up on the plane and subsequently on the island. Maybe we will find out later on that he is responsible for other key characters ending up on the island too.
