*Okay I've have some more ideas i would like to to add. First of all one of the primary themes of Lost is Science v. Faith and I think the Jacob mystery will epitomize this.
*I think the time travel, volcanoe, electromagnetism are all related.
*Jacob was a member/captain of the Black Rock
*The ash around the cabin is from the volcano
*The incident with the electomagnetism caused the volcano to erupt.
1.
Before Locke and Ben enter the cabin, just after Ben lights the lantern someone screams in the distance and then Locke looks around and touches his gun. ( I know some one will say its just the wind but trust me turn the volume up its 100% some one screaming, its no coincidence Locke turns around after and looks around and then grabs his gun.
***The scream comes as soon as Ben lights the lantern. From the "Constant" we saw that something triggers the time flashes. I think the lighting of the lantern causes a time flash within the circle of ash and the scream is Jacob's.
2.
Jacob flips out because Locke is about to tell Ben what he said. I counted 3.5 seconds Locke is shining his flashlight before everything goes crazy. The music makes it seem sooner but trust me, start counting from the time Locke turns the light on to the time everything starts flying. heres how the sequence went
jacob: help me
locke: what did you just say?
Ben: I, I didn't say anything (startled)
(locke shines flashlight)
Locke: yes you did, you just said he-.....everything starts flying
***When everything starts shaking it could be the volcano in the flash sequence.
***When the doctor on the freighter shines light into Desmond's eyes he experience another time flash....It's possible that the light Locke shines causes more time effects within the cabin
3.
While in the cabin the lantern shatters and sets fire. After Ben leaves, the fire is out and the lantern still intact.
***I think the flash is over everything returns to normal.
conclusion:
As a result of a Dharma experiment Jacob and the area within the circle of ash is permanantly unstuck in time.***I think its possible that the experimenting unsettled the volcano. The cabin moves as supported in. The Beginning of the End and in the Economist the circle of ash Locke comes to is in a different spot( it isn't heavily wooded as the location Ben and Locke go to) Faraday says the affects of being unstuck in time are random. Time shifting within the circle is random. the screaming locke heard was the screaming of Jacob in the past. Jacob is a great man because he can see the future and can predict what will happen on and off the island, Ben uses these predictions to earn the trust of the others.
^^^^I have a feeling light will be shed on the Jacob story in the near future. The upcoming Locke episode ( ep. 11) is title "Cabin Fever" and i have a strong feeling this is Jacob's Cabin.
