My theory is that Libby is really a grown up version of Annie (Ben’s childhood sweetheart).
She was hidden (probably under water in the Looking Glass) when the purge happened so she doesn’t die.
Later she studied to become a doctor but escaped from Ben & the Island.
This caused her to have a brain.. time travel problem (like Minkowski & Desmond).
This put her in the nut house because they don’t believe she can see the future.
When she sees Hurley in the mental hospital (her constant in the future) she snaps out of it and her brain is fixed.
She gets out and becomes a clinical psychologist.
She sees Desmond, and because she knows him from the island, she gives him the boat (probably the one she escaped the island with).
Remember Ben wanted that boat !!!!
Her Hair was naturally dark (as when she was a child).
She is sweet on Hurley in the future because she knows he saved her in the past (remember he said DO I KNOW YOU FROM SOMEWHERE).
The writers never gave her whole name in the show and this is the kind of stuff they like to pull (see below)
