I have read countless theories about Jacob. In my opinion, most are wrong for one reason or another. The shows producers tell us that the names of the characters are given for a reason. This is why I believe Christian Shepard is Jacob.
CHRISTIAN=A holy spirit a.k.a. GOD
SHEPARD=One who leads others(no pun intend
If you notice, everytime we see an apparently dead character, they lead another character to something or someone they are destined to meet.ie Christian leads Jack to the fresh water in season one.
This also brings to play the whole good v.s. evil plot
The good=Jacob
The bad=smoke monster
Whenever we see the smoke monster, someone usually dies, sometimes they seeg hosts then aswell, like Mr. Eko saw Yemi who led him to his death at the hands of the smoke monster.
This means that either the apparations are either all good(maybe yemi was jacob in another form and the smoke monster interfered or, the smoke monster (or the devil) use ghosts as a tool for destruction.
I'm certain you will all pick this theory to pieces but it's my story and I'm sticking to it!
