How the whole “Time Differential” ties into the overall mystery of the show.
Firstly, I hope this theory hasn’t been already posted as it seemed fairly obvious to me straight away, but I haven’t seen it anywhere
else on this site.
Remember in “Through the looking Glass” when Locke saw Walt but he was “Taller” and obviously older and more mature. Well after watching 4.03 The Economist, its safe to say that more time passes on the outside of the island than on the actual Island (due to faradays experiment with the rocket). I believe that as soon as Michael and Walt left the island and made it home, time began to run a lot slower than on the island (of course they didn’t notice this), hence, to them they had been gone for roughly 2 years based on Walt’s age, thus explaining why Walt looked a lot older when Locke saw him above the pit of dead Dharma people.
This brings me to another theory I have about the show in general. I think that at the end of series 4, the people in the Oceanic 6 will have left the island (how this transpires obviously we have to wait and see)and the events that take place in all of the flashfowards take place between season 4 and 5. I reckon in series 5 they will be working out a way to get back to the island (or will have already worked one out) and to them, they have been off the island for about a year (or longer), thus making it about 30 days or so actually on the island.
Please feel free to point out any loop holes or additional things to this theory.
