I think the other others are the native of the island, maybe they are the sons and daughters off those who survived "the black rock".
Or maybe it are those who build the statue foot.
I refuse to belive that the foot was build by the dharma or the well known others.
Therefore the others say that they took the children to a better place, because they could protect them (they lived with the sonic barrier protecting them).
Another thing to notice is that the survivors that were taken by the others were on alcatraz. Why?
Maybe because they were promised to return home for a little favor, watching an discuss the losties, a discussion the losties could hear, how i don't know, but if they had a sonic barrier, they probably could control and direct sound, maybe trough the radio tower.
Maybe to study how people without modern civilization organize and so on.
So they could predict the natives who they are at war with.

The natives was afraid and started attacking the dharma, they become the hostiles.
Dharma started to defend themselves, the stations was not a problem since they were bunkers and well hidden, butt he barracks where they lived was often attacked.
They managed to build a sonic perimeter, with the help of the magnetic abnormality.
And they gave the swan a heavy weapon arsenal.
But something happened after some while, some thought that the Dharma was starting to become greedy and did research only for profits, these were those who were followers of The Degroots. The other factions thought that the Degroots and their followers started to lose focus.
War was inventable. It was called the Purge.
A war that the Degroots followers went out with victory. The war was over very quickly, and Hanso corporation did not notice the takeover.However, the initiative managed to retreat to the swan station. Unable to contact the mainland Some of the survivors died later after been eaten by bears and so on.
The initiative continued the food drop.
The others took over the project and made contact with Mittelos Bioscience who started to support The Others. With both manpower and supplies.
Sow how did Kelvin Inman end up in the swan.
We know that the others had little notice about the swan, but as we saw in Expose they knew about the swan, but maybe not the use of it.
I believe that Kelvin who were a military expert had some expertise in parachuting, and it was exactly the way he arrived the island.
But after he arrived, somehow the Initiative stopped the manpower to the swan. For unknown reasons.
What about Rosseau.
The others who now were in control of most of the island facilities found out about the research vessel.
The noticed the survivors step and managed to convince Brennan of the crew to change sides.
The reason why they didn’t just reveal themself was that they stilled believed to create a social utopia.

But somehow the natives found the French also. With neither side knowing about the other they studied the French crew who were searching for the transmitter's

Remember when Locke made some sort of hallucination to Boone with some fruits.
Either the others or the natives managed to inject the French crew with some of the hallucination drug.
The result were that one after another started to hallucinate, Until there were only Rosseau and Brennan left.
They continued to search for the source. At last they found the radio tower. They walked in and started to send a message.
The others reacted and belived that they could be compromissed. Brennan had instructions about this and tried to kill Rosseau outside of the stations. She managed to slipp trough and locked the door, but Brennan had taken the key of the radiostation. So it wouldnt take long for him to open the door.
Rosseau managed to send out the broadcast, and somehow managed to flee the area and get rid of Brennan.
Shortly after she gave birth to Alexandria, who she lost three weeks later.
