I beleive the theory is much simpler than anyone expects and mine comes from many cartoons an animation i have watched and still watch even am 35 years old. so far the hanzo foundation states that one of the projects involves magnitic field, so this is the job of swan station and by pressing the button it keeps the magntic field active.
What is the purpose of the magnitic field? i think it is a field to keep anything within invisible, that why no rescue has come, cos no one can see the the island while people are willing to push the button. now why the plane crashed? It crashed because suddenly the island appeared while the plane was flying over the sea, the pilot and the plane's radar were not able to see the island and suddenly the island appeared (because Desmond missd to put the numbers in) the pilot got shocked and crashed the plane. and this will lead to the reason why he was the only one (I mean the pilot) got killed by the monster, because he knew what happened during the crash.
To add support to that theory, before the season finale , two observers who suddenly experience magnitic anomely inform their boss about the island or something like that this corresponds to the time when the losties stop pressing the button. and at the same period the hanzo corp drops food for them, the food droping is regural, however because the hanzo foundation are not able to see the island they have to wait till someone makes a mistake by not pressing the button so they can drop the food. Now the main question is what was the incident? or what happened during the incident?
According to my thoery i think it was the time when Hanzo corp lost control over the on/off of the magnetic field i.e. the invisibility of the island was no longor under the Hanzo foundation control. so since the incident the control has been within the island ( some one pressing the button) and not from the out side (Hanzo corp), this has lead to the current situation in the island. I will continue with my theory regarding the islaners if i get replies from you guys or girls.
