Note: This theory contains some spoilers.
I am Jason aka LOST Lunatic on AOL. My Back to the Future 2015 Theory borrows from several more brilliant theories and ties them up into one neat sexy package (just like Kate). Enjoy !
The theory is based on the island being at the other end of a time warp, but contrary to conventional thinking the island time is not in the past, it is in the future. Hence, what appears to be a flash-forward when certain Losties appear to be rescued, is not at all a flash-forward. They went back in time to the lives they had before the crash. It is a flashback to before the plane crashed.
Therefore, when the plane crashed onto the island it arrives in the future. When Jack says to Kate "we have to go back", it means he wants to go back to the future. When Jack says "I can't keep lying", he means he can't keep from telling everyone that Oceanic 815 will crash 9/22/2004, and that the world will end according to the numbers in 2015.
He wants to go back because for one on the island he and Kate will skip into the future post 2015 and will not die, and secondly there is an opportunity once on the island to change the course of events, possibly by eliminating the freighter people instead of making the deal he did with them to leave. It was akin to a deal with the devil.
What rules your sanity both on and off the island is your belief system. Each lostie has thier own belief system. Clearly Jack off the island believes the world will end, is afraid of mortality, and goes crazy. Probably Kate left in order to abort the baby by going back in time and live, Sun and Jin both leave to start over, Hurley to rid himself of the bad luck by not buying a lottery ticket, and Sayid to be a hero by finding Shannon and saving her.
Furthermore the truth about the power of course correction among the O6 is merely within themselves (the same as everyone else) and not all encompassing the world. It is up to them using what they know to change their lives. But I still would not fly in an airplane if I was one of them! LOL Thoughts?
