What is the island?
I recently posted "Solaris" in which i claim that the island is sort of an entity or an organism or an alien planet or an experiment of some sort which can download your dreams and thoughts and turn them against you or use them for its own personal gain.
Weather is good or bad it stays open..My guess is that it can be good or bad and it all depends on perspective. I said this number of times and I was ridiculed but I am convinced that in life in general every situation depends on perspective and so does reality itself. Reality depends on observer. (the changes in conversation, photo frames, Bens wound and so on)

Lets take for example a colorblind person. This person doesn't see the world the way I see it. It mixes up colors and basically it sees them wrong. But who is to say what is wrong? Maybe colorblind people see the real reality. Just like Hugo. He thinks he is cursed, crazy and so on..he even said: "I think we see it because we are the craziest ones" But in my opinion both him and Locke are the only ones that are so close and in touch with both themselves and the island unlike other survivors. Walt too.

So you see..I think the island has these "powers". To give you what you want. What you desire. What you dream of. (read Solaris)
So thats enough about the nature of the island.

Where it is?
I also believe it exist somewhere in another dimension..so, when they crashed they didn't crash down, they crashed up. They were pulled inside of a wormhole and ended up on the island which doesn't exist on Earth..only the passage (wormhole) that leads to this place exist on Earth. There is an Entrance and an Exit. And like Hawking said these entrances are hard to find and they don't stay open very long. Exit is Tunisia. Perhaps there are more of them but we are only familiar with this one.

Why is it important?
I believe that island is a nexus for different worlds, realities, universes...

You cannot change the past. Time is a river..you cannot change the course of river unless you built a dam..or throw a very very large rock into the river so something huge needs to happen in order to change.
But you can change it only if you re lived this past you traveled to, before..in that case you will know how things played out and you will be successful in making changes. Since none of 815ers who traveled back in past knew how things played out before they couldn't change a thing. Sayid shot Ben and he thought he changed course of events but little did he know..He already shot Ben before and Sawyer and Kate took him to the Hostiles. So nothing was changed. WHH. But what if Sayid had an access to a map of time..and he looked at it..he saw himself shooting Ben and he saw Kate and Sawyer taking him to the Hostiles..If he had that he would think twice before shooting Ben..because the change would be in not doing anything..change would be if he befriended Ben. So what is the conclusion? You have to KNOW time in order to manipulate the events. And who knows it? Jacob does.
I am not sure about MiB. But I am sure about Jacob. We saw him visiting Losties in exact points of time. He picked those points carefully. And he made a change.

What if we have it backwards?

In first iteration Kate was punished. She stopped stealing. She never killed her dad. She was born to stay put. She became selfless..and not selfish.
In first iteration Sawyer never finished the letter due to the broken pen.. and his uncle. So he never became bitter con man. Perhaps he still wanted to nail Anthony Cooper but this time he wanted justice..so he became a cop or a private detective in order to bring the bustard to justice.
In first iteration Locke died. Or he never got paralyzed. He simply survived the fall with just a superficial injuries and his life continued normally. But I guess he simply died after AC pushed him through a window..or perhaps that never happened because Sawyer got to him first and put him behind bars. :)
And this is how things played out first time around..but then out of nowhere Jacob appeared and he interfered..he made big changes with small interference.

I often think that Locke is someone elses child. I am positive he is not AC child. (I know he gave him a kidney..but after everything we saw in this show..like staging the plane crash..digging up graves and placing dead bodies inside..lying about the island..raising Aaron and lying about giving him a birth on the island when it was clear she was not pregnant..let alone 8 months pregnant when she boarded that plane and so on...I really think that Anthony Cooper was just another con) Why? Few reasons, but the most important is the drawing John Locke drew when he was a kid and the fact that Ricardus gave him a Dalai Lama test.

We heard that it is against the rules to have a child with an outsider..so what if one of these two (my money is on Jacob) went out and had a child with Emily Locke. And with that act he changed the course of events..he made a big impact on time. Like he did with Kate, Sawyer and again Locke (so he did with Locke twice)..Because that child should not exist at all. That child is Locke. And maybe this ridiculous rule that banished Charles Widmore is not ridiculous after all. Maybe the root of that rule is due to the fact that a leader once upon a time made a boy who will come back and destroy them all..because Locke is a destroyer of things (the hatch, the sub, perhaps the statue too, Mikhail station and so on)...all of these things sound like a prophecy to me.

He who will save us all.
If he is not back on the island then God help us all.
You are not suppose to have a child with an outsider.
You are not suppose to do this.
You are suppose to help me.

All of these things are written..like in a Bible. And someone is working pretty hard to change them.
