The Love Triangle and Whatever Happened, Happened by Desperate Geese

This is my first theory here, so please, cut me some slack :).

I was thinking of season 3, the mini-arc of the first 6 episodes specially, when the show focused its attention pretty much on Kate, Jack and Sawyer, along with the love triangle. We all know that Hurley was also kidnapped by The Others, but his only mission was to tell the other Losties to never come back for the triffecta. The main plot would center around manipulating the triangle and Ben getting his surgery.

My main question is: how did Ben know about the love triangle? Yes, the easiest answer to my question is obviously Ethan. He probably reported to Ben a few times. But was he around enough to realize that Jack and Kate connected, and the Doctor was trying to make Kate realize that she could be a better person? And did he know that, at the same time, Sawyer offered her comfort because he had a criminal past like her? And would Ben put his own life at stake for Ethan's assumptions of three people tangled up in a triangle?

I don't stand for neither team WHH or team Alt time line, but here's another possibility: the 70's. Little Ben spent some time with Kate, Jack and Sawyer, and he kept his memories through all this time, and the arrival of Flight 815 was the perfect opportunity for manipulating the triangle and getting his surgery. But Richard did take Ben to the temple, and he "lost his innocence". So how could he remember the triangle? We also know that, if WHH, Ben returned to Dharma Ville as adult Ben to make The Purge Happen. So that leaves a gap in the story. Will we ever know why Ben returned to Dharma and how he came to know about the triangle? Or we already have the answers? Ethan reported to him about the survivors, and he returned to Dharma in the past just by "Jacob's" orders? I wonder if this will ever be addressed on the show again.
