The Frozen Donkey Wheel Goes Both Ways by Luke

Here's a developed version of a thought I've been kicking around the comments.

We've got a problem on our favorite show. 2/3 of the characters are in 1977, while the rest are in 2007.

Luckily, we've got a time machine!

We need some physical time-travel to get our heros back, and it seems turning the FDW does just that.

Now, it can be a bit unsafe. Ben's scrawny ass couldn't do it right, and sent everybody hopping around, getting nose bleeds and stuff. Alpha-hunter John Locke kinda fixed that temporary problem. Unfortunately, a bunch of people we're caught in the wrong year.

So, I propose we need someone to mosey on back to the FDW and turn it (the other way) so our friends can go forward to their rightful time.

NOTE - Ben & John turned the wheel from right to left. And, while they went forward and backwards while it was off track; I believe they went backwards when John pushed the wheel finally. (Because they went from open well to solid ground, remember?)

"Who's up to the task?"

A strong guy present in 77... How about... Charles Widmore. Seems his 70s era self would have the strength to do it. And, this would explain how he was banished!

"But what about that scene with Ben and the escort to the sub?"

I say that is Charles leaving for a 2nd time. I think this also explains why he doesn't come back on the freighter in '04. He had already tried coming back and just got bounced. It would parallel Ben coming back after his turning of the FDW. Clearly, this rule is a bit flexible.

And finally, I believe he'll turn it the opposite direction. Sending the travelers forward. AND, this will send him to the Tunisia point sometime prior to '77.

It seems the wheel turner goes the oppisite direction in time as both Ben and John end up in the future even though the wheel sends the skipping Losties backwards.

Which could explain how he went from other to wealthy bidness man. If he had future knowledge he could make a lot of money in a jiffy.

"But Luke what about the physical travel from the Ajira flight?"

Um... Anybody got something for this question?
