LOST Theories - DarkUFO

This has been a mystery since the Season One finale, Exodus. Thanks to new information presented in The Incident, I think that a legitimate stab can be taken at this event that confused many. After all, Locke's first encounter with the monster in Walkabout was described as 'beautiful', and it didn't attack him at all. So why the sudden change in attitude?

My theory has parallels in some ways with Mr. Eko's encounters with the monster. In one of his first encounters, he is scanned by Smokey but not attacked or killed. His next encounter led to his death. This, I think, is one clue to the mysterious incident in Exodus. I think in Walkabout, Locke was simply being scanned.

Let's assume for a moment that MIB is the Smoke Monster, or at least they are working together. In Walkabout, Smokey (perhaps taking a different form so Locke wouldn't be tempted to run), scans Locke, looking into his past to see if he's the right guy to manipulate for MIB's plan, in addition to giving Locke the false notion that he was in some way "connected" to the island. After realizing he was right, he waits for another good opportunity to kill Locke and take over his body/persona. This is why he drags Locke into the hole in Exodus - to set his plan in motion. After the Dynamite causes the plan to fail, MIB is forced to rethink his plans and set the more elaborate one that we see unfold in Season 5 in motion.

If this theory were proven true, it would add yet another tragic twist to Locke's character arc. The "beautiful" moment where he connected with the island was yet another manipulative ploy by MIB to take power over Jacob.
