So, I just read a previous theory that included Hurley reading the numbers during the transmission that can be heard while 316 crashes. And with everything we know about season 6 (more charcter developments, backstorys, Alperts' "I have seen them die", etc.), a thought struck me: We might have already experienced the end of LOSTS' story with the white flash in season 5's finale. That was it. Big Baboom. Mythologicallywise, it might not really get any better than this.
So, here's how the thing goes down in my mind: From the very beginning, we have seen an alternate timeline. This is NOT how the story started. We will experience the actual start of the show in season 6. And maybe this will be the moment that the so called "Bryden's theory on everything" over at lost forum will tie in. And, like this, the writers will actually be able to skip time travelling in season 6. And all of the mythology that pointed towards a heavy sci - fi turn in the series.
We will only see the story of how everything led up to some key points of LOST, e.g. everyone knowing everybody else. In my mind, the season 6 finale will be Oceanic 815 taking off. And then, we know what happens. Or maybe not. Kinda like: "He might be a candidate." Maybe not.
I always felt that, in the brilliant writing of the show, there always was this momentum of "Does the Dharma initiative really serve a purpose? Go figure..." In other words: The mythology of the show is very relative. Dharma could have installed their machines that really work, but also, they could very simply not have any effect at all and therefore end in a big explosion. I believe that this freedom of having the possibility to simply cut off storylines is part of the extraordinary genius of the shows' writing. How I wish, I could be in the writing team... It must be the best job on the planet.
So, just to sum it up: I think LOST will stick around even after the serie is done. Just like an itching, slowly healing wound. Because we won't get definitive answers. And that's how Damon & Carlton have created the BIGGEST series ever: It never stops. Even after it is done.
