Opening scenes in the first episode of new seasons have been , for lack of a better word, unpredictable. Season 2 had Desmond in the Hatch, Season 3 had Juliet at the Barracks, Season 4 had Hurley leading police on a chase in his Camaro, Season 5 had Faraday running into Chang at the Orchid. I’ll submit that none of these scenes were expected, or even talked about, by Lost fans. So, I fully expect a similar “mind screw” in the opening scene of Season 6.
Most of the discussion here, and at other sites, seems to be focusing on only a few possibilities. One popular one is that Flight 815 will land at LAX safely.
Another is some variation of the “77ers” being flashed to 2007/2008 (“They’re coming”) Or, the 1977 aftermath of the “Incident”. To me, any of these are too predictable. I think that Darlton will continue the tradition of the opening scene curveballs by starting with the Black Rock. Some here think that this was going to happen eventually via a Richard Alpert flashback. But I believe that this aspect of the Island’s history will be much more important to the flow of Season 6, and although Alpert’s story will be told, it will be within the larger context of the whole Magnus Hanso /Alvar Hanso/ DeGroot (and possibly Mittelwerk) story. I can already hear the crowd : “There’s not enough time in 18 hours to do that” etc. I think it’s the other way around. I don’t think that Darlton can fill 18 hours with an ALT version of Season 1 (maybe 4-6 episodes, if they go that route). Nor do I think that they could fill it with flashbacks from “other points! of view” or the Whispers, with all the old characters coming back. (By the way, I never understood the WHH view that Darlton can’t “erase” the past five seasons…huh? Why not? It’s not like a reset timeline would be in a vacuum…the viewers know the characters’ “ALT history”, and the O6 quite likely would have Desmond-like memories of the history that we have seen.)
OK, now the only evidence that I have for this is Michael Fox’s comment about “merging the timelines in about 6 episodes”. Do they stay in 1977 for 6 episodes? I doubt that…I think the 1977 Dharma stuff is done, at least until the mid 1980s (maybe the “AH/ MDG” incident mentioned on the Swan map, Radzinsky/Inman, etc….that’s not to say we won’t see *earlier* Dharma scenes, at Ann Arbor, Faraday, etc). As I suggest above, they don’t go to 2007/2008, nor 2004…too predictable. Drum roll please…..
They get flashed to the 1800s, and encounter the Black Rock crew. The first few episodes will have an arc that fills in what I think is the most important
“hole” that is left in the Lost mythology. Think about it….the Black Rock’s crew and slaves are marooned , they encounter “Others”, etc. It would certainly have a “Season One Feel” to it. The bigger picture would be the beginning of the MIB’s “loophole”. Now, I admit that I have no clue from this point…maybe the time traveling Losties will have another “choice” to make that further affects the future. First scene…Magnus Hanso opening is his eye. Close second is
Richard Alpert opening his…but there wasn’t enough eyeliner on the short clip that we saw :)
I suppose they could be also flashed back to the time of the ancient Egyptians…that would be completely from left field! Doubt it, though.
If there are any ideas in here that are from other theories, please accept my apologies… Please feel free to rip this apart, or add to it.

PS..Why would Horace let three guys who walked out of the woods run Dharma Security?
PPS Why did Ben eat the *dark meat* in Season 3.
