I've seen a lot of posts about Jacob and his buddy being from the future and I'm starting to believe it. I know Carlton said that time travel is over, but I think that they could still introduce them as "future" folk without a flashback or flashforward.
I think this, first because if you spend a season on time travel, you have to allow the possibility of traveling forward, not just back.
Second, why would there be so much talk about the end of the world, the Valenzetti equation, from Lost writers themselves, if it was not relevant? They obviously spent a lot of time thinking about, trying to change the outcome of the equation to save or prolong the end of time or the world.
So, unless the world is going to end in 2007, which it could, but I doubt it, I think that Jacob and MIB are most likely from the future. They saw the end of the world coming, went back, and tried to change the outcome. I mean if Dharma was messing around with time travel in the late 70's early 80's, surely in the future they understand it much better and can travel more freely.
Possibly, Jacob and MIB were scientists, which I've read here before, and there goal was to prolong existance, or eleminate something that would end the world as we know it. Jacob keeps trying and failing and starting over, he has faith he'll get it right eventually. MIB used to believe, but after who knows how many times they have tried, it always ends the same. He is a realistic thinking person, trial and error, he has no faith because it never works, it ALWAYS "ends the same". This could very possibly drive a logical man insane and try to kill Jacob to just get it over with, he's tired of it.
Maybe these two are the ones responsible for creating, or influencing, Hanso Foundation and Dharma, maybe MIB is Valenzetti? probably not, and sorry if they have shown his face before, I don't know.
What I still don't understand is what Jacob wants us to progress to. Does he thinks that if we don't corrupt, destroy, fight, blah blah, that this will keep the world from ending? I guess, but it still "only ends once". So he acknowledges that it will end regardless of how we act prior. This, to me, leans on a religious aspect. When it ends to we all end in "Heaven" or "Hell", if we progress the way he wants, is there a reward for humanity? If it always "ends up the same", are we somehow punished?
They must think that there is an afterlife, or why would they care what happens when the world ends. We'd all be gone, who cares. So there must be some sort of reward for progression at the end of the show, or we don't progress and face the wrath of whatever.
Anyway, losing train of thought here, I think that it is highly possible that these two are from the future, I think that this has been going on and repeating for a LONG time, and it looks like, with some old cast mates returning, it is going to repeat again next season. Most likely with new memories for our 06'ers. Gotta love Lost!
Tear it up ya'll
