This is more of a plot point theory than a mythological theory, i.e. I'm not going try to explain the smoke monster, ageless alpert, etc. Instead, it's more of a prediction of how season 6 could pan out with an alternate reality scenario. It's really more lazy fan fiction, I guess, so try not to yell at me--
The season begins in LA, circa 2004, an alternate reality in which our characters are living similar lives with subtle differences. They have no memory of their lives on the island, either as castaways or warhead detonators
One of the characters, lets say Hurley, is approached by a spooky, elderly, sickened Dr. Chang, who having survived Jughead in the 70s, now recognizes Hurley and goes on one of those maniacal "It's you!" tirades. Hurley, not recognizing Chang, is freaked.
This is only the set up for the bigger reveal, which comes in the form of Desmond, who has just returned...from the island.
However, the island where he crashed on the Elizabeth had no hatch, no button for him to push. Instead of being pulled ashore by Kelvin, Desmond was nursed back to health by Jacob, who eventually sent him back to civilization with two items--the 77 Dharma picture featuring the castaways, and Faraday's notebook.
Desmond also comes accompanied with a strange set of memories, recalled from his experiences in Flashes Before Your Eyes, of a very different island, and a very different set of experiences.
Armed with these memories, the picture, and notebook (which conveniently contains a flight manifest), Desmond will set out to convince the castaways to come back to an island of which they have no memory.
Faraday, upon seeing his notebook will provide some helpful scientific info./rules about alternate realities, including a couple of zingers--1. If you die in one reality, you also die in another, and two alternate realities can not sustain themselves forever, at some point the two streams must reunite.
For these, and contractual reasons, Charlie, Boone, and Faraday will clearly be goners when this happens, but what about everyone who died in the Jughead explosion back in 77?
Well, Faraday explains, there just might be a loophole--if you were essentially ionized in the exact moment in which the alternate reality was formed, you may survive the return to the original reality, if you go back to the island, where it all began.
Convinced, the Jughead losties, accompanied by Locke, find the alterna-island, where Jacob leads them to a frozen donkey wheel and invites Locke to turn it. The castaways find themselves back on the original island and look up just in time to see 315 fall from the sky. However, Locke is not with them, just as Faraday predicted...or is he?
