So here goes...I think Jacob told Ben at some point what was going to go down in the statue. Remember, Ben always has a plan. Don't count him as a pawn of the smoke monster. If there's one thing we've learned of Benjamin Linus is that he is a master tactician and he doesn't get played, he plays you. I believe that Jacob met with Ben off island and told him his plan. How did Ben know he needed to go to the temple to be judged? Because Jacob told him. Ben knew Flocke was the smoke monster all along and played him every step of the way with the smoke monsters threat to destroy him if he didn't do what Locke said. He knew Ben was coming to kill him and wanted him to, that way he could inhabit the "candidate" Frank Lapidus' body. Ben and Jacob put on "a show" for Flocke. Think about it...
