I've read several theories on the relationship between Jacob and the Sheppard/Littleton family (ie Christian, Jack, Claire and Aaron). That either they are related to Jacob or that Jacob is in fact Aaron. These theories are based on a several facts: First, both Aaron and Jacob have dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. Second, it is the reason the Sheppards have a close relationship to the island. Christian and Claire(supposedly) come back to life as mediums/consorts for Jacob since they are of blood. Lastly, many details about Aaron (baptismal, abduction, "the little prince") seem to imply that Aaron has a bigger role in the grand scheme of lost rather than a simple subplot filler.
Now to get to my new addition to the theory. What if these island ressurections/reanimations are based on blood ties? I extended this theory and looked at the possibilities of how John Locke was related to someone of great importance in the lost mythology. What if the possession was possible because Locke is related to the man in black. In the episode "Cabin Fever", the audience assumes that his father is Anthony Cooper, but the "much older man" is never seen or named which is deliberatly left out by the writers. I wouldnt be surprised if Locke is the son of the "man in black" or somehow related to him. This relationship would give reason for why he's fond of games (like the Man in Black's global chess match) and why he drew that picture of the swirly tornado thing in the foster home (some sort of awarness was passed on of things to come).
Even if this theory is way off, I like how it would make the conflict between Jack and Locke a microcosm for the conflict between Jacob and the man in black.
