I have been thinking for awhile now that the animals in Lost all have a connection with Jacob/Essau or Jacob/Essau is posing in animal form. I have read a couple of animal related theories but some stuff I've noticed I haven't seen on the boards so I thought I would share my reasoning and somewhat of a theory on why I think Jacob is posing in animal form.
Lets start with the animal interactions key characters have had so far in the series.
Sawyer. In the season one episode Outlaws we see Sawyer is getting annoyed and harassed by a boar. Later on in the episode he is in the jungle and hears whispers that sounds like someone is saying something like "It will come back around" as soon as he turns around he sees the boar and is knocked down in the mud. Later on during this episode he has a dream about his childhood but instead of his father being in it its the boar and you hear the same whispers "It will come back around". Near the end of the episode he comes face to face with the boar and chooses to not kill it. I think it is very possible Jacob or Essau has taken the form of the boar in this episode to test sawyer somehow. On a side note this is the same episode Locke mentioned something about how his foster sister died and her mother thought she was reincarnated as a golden retriever.
Kate. In season two episode What Kate Did we see a black horse cause the car to wreck and later appear on the island. With possessions and bodies being taken over it should also be noted while Sawyer was injured he appeared possessed and said something like "Why did you kill me?" referring to Kates dad. Kate stormed off frustrated and scared and later on the horse is hanging out on the island. Sawyer is able to see the horse as well and actually make physical contact. Could be some special tie in cause they were both touched by Jacob. Who knows? I think it is possible the horse is Jacob.
Hurley. In season1 episode Exodus pt2 we see a large green bird fly around screaming hurley (get your dvd and put on subtitles if you don't believe me) while they are in the dark territory and smokey is wrecking havoc. This could be either Jacob or Essau. We see the bird appear again in season2 episode Live Together Die Alone and scream hurley while they are heading into a trap. I think this time it could be either as well.
Sayid. In season3 episode Enter 77 we see Sayid in a flashback being interrogated by a man and a woman cause Sayid had tortured her before during his time in the military. The woman has a cat and tells a story about how the cat had been kicked around and every now and then strikes because thats what she was use to before she got the cat. Later on in the episode we see Mikael has a cat named Nadia which is the same name of Sayids main love interest. He said she's named after some gymnast. This is just too crazy of a coincidence. Soon afterwards the cat starts playing with the rug revealing to Sayid the secret door underneath that leads to the basement which eventually they go down and capture Ms. Clue and Mikael and blow the Flame station up. Somehow this super cat survives the explosion with no apparent injuries and stares Sayid down in the final seconds to end the episode. This time I think it may be Essau since some others got killed and their station blew up.
I think the most common animal form taken has been Jacob as Vincent. In season1 episode Tabula Rasa we see Vincent run off into the jungle and get lost. Michael and walt argue under a tent and Michael tells Walt he will look for Vincent as soon as it stops raining and for some strange reason it miraculously stops raining. We see Locke use a whistle to get Vincent to come out and he does. I think this is a clue for the Jacob/Essau showdown early on. I'm not sure if Essau has already taken form of Locke at this point (completely different theory) but it should be noted at the closing scene we see Vincent getting hugs and he's happy and then about 20ft away you see Locke just staring in anger towards Michael, Walt and Vincent. Obviously Locke was frustrated about Michael wanting him to stay away from Walt and Vincent but Locke looks very evil in this scene. The music even shifts to a darker and creepier tone at the end. I feel they went out of their way to make Locke look evil! and mysterious. It should also be noted that Tabula Rasa is latin for "blank slate".
There are several other little things that could be coincidence or could be Jacob posing as Vincent. In season two episode Long Con Vincent is with Sun in the garden and walks off right before Charlie attacks and fakes the kidnapping. He was in the area but did nothing. No barking or running back to camp just hanging out letting Charlie do what he chooses. Free Will. A few episodes later in episode Three Minutes he brings Charlie mary statue and tests him. Charlie kicks habit with cool scene throwing statues in ocean. In season3 episode Tricia Tanaka is Dead we see Vincent bring Bens dads skeleton arm and lead Hurley and company to a vehicle that hasn't run for over a decade magically come to life and work. Maybe had special Jacob mechanical touch or something. If it was a jacob plan it kind of blew up in his face that time because the same van ran over his own people. Another minor thing that sticks out is season3 episode Expose we see what many believe is smoke monster po! sing as spiders and killing Nikki/Paulo. Later we see Vincent pull the covers off their bodies while Losties are digging the graves as a last effort to let them know their not dead yet. Probably just dog senses or coincidence but it makes you wonder maybe there is more to it and jacob has been around more than we think.
In season 2 episode One of Them we don't see Jacob but I think there is more going on in this episode than most people realize. Sawyer is again frustrated with an animal. This time its a treefrog. A special treefrog that he hears from the beach even though its in the middle of the jungle and apparently no one else hears it but Hurley who has had connections with animals earlier. The entire episode is based on Sawyer and Hurley chasing a treefrog in the jungle. Why? Why have an entire episode chasing a treefrog? Bear with me because even though this sounds silly I defiantly think there's something very important hidden in this episode. We now know that the statue is Tawret the egyptian goddess who represents fertility. The frog was a symbol of fertility to the ancient egyptians. There is also a frog headed egyptian goddess named Heget who represents resurrection. Maybe this is jacob in animal form again. Maybe this is his loophole. Get someone to kill me now before Essau does! it and I resurrect and somehow it cancels out stabbing in statue. Who knows? Maybe Jacob in form of Vincent was hanging out on the beach near the statue and Essau hops up impersonating symbol of fertility and starts talking smack about destroying jacobs fertility statue just to be cocky. Who knows but one thing is for sure an entire episode chasing a frog (which resembles fertility and resurrection in ancient egyptian mythology) on a show where people who can possess bodies hang out by giant statues representing fertility isn't just filler. Somehow or another the treefrog has purpose and I think it could be jacob or Essau in animal form.
I'm pretty convinced Jacob has appeared in several episodes in the form of animals. I think its possible Essau has done the same. I'm sure there are loopholes in the theory and I'm sure it will get bashed by some but I'm hoping for some feedback and peoples opinions. Let me know what you think.
