Hi there, sorry if this has been pointed out before, but something has been troubling me with the chronolgy and continuity of the show. I know there must be a few theories about this previously but i'm at a loss.
In "Follow the leader" Sun approaches Richard Alpert and shows him the photo Christian gave her in the cabin during "Namaste". She asks him if he recognizes the losties, to which Richard replies "Yes, I was here 30 years ago. And I do. I remember these people. I remember meeting them very clearly, because... I WATCHED THEM ALL DIE"
WTF???????????????
This more or less tells us the Losties died when Juliet detonated the core of "Jughead" (a common result of nuclear warfare being detonated).
But what is puzzling me is that Richard explicitly states that he "WATCHED" them all die. Fair enough i suppose, but if richard was in "watching" distance of the Bomb and it killed the Losties it would be bye bye Richard. also, Richard appears to be able to die hence his "omg i'm gonna poo myself" look every time a gun's pointed at him.
OK so he could've watched from a Dharma CCTV Camera elsewhere, but we don't know if the Swan had CCTV and it doesn't seem very Richard-like.
HOWEVER, this is where it gets interesting. In 2007, Why didn't Richard just say to Sun "yea, i saw them on the island three years ago when flight 815 crashed, some of them escaped and the rest disappeared"??????
For some reason Richard insinuates that he has not seen the Losties since 1977 (exactly 30 years ago from 2007). eh?
I'm pretty stumped about why he says this.
Is it possible that the time line could have been altered when Juliet detonated the bomb?
Or was it altered before this??????????
I think whatever happened HAS been changed.
It appears that the future can be changed, I think Daniel proved this himself. When he knocks on the hatch door and tells Desmond he has to come back he actually changes the future. Desmond has absoluely no intention of going back to the island until Daniel changes his past. I didn't realise this at first because of all Daniel's "whatever happened hapened" malarky.... Was this just a divert away from Daniel actually changing the past?
To me it seems obvious that Daniel changed the future by changing the past, He gave desmond a memory that he never would have had if Daniel didn't visit the hatch.
hmmmmmmmm?
another observation i made was that when the Losties were teleported off the Ajira flight, they arrived in a time when the Swan was just being thought up. Coincidence?
I think maybe this was some sort of effect of the fail-safe being turned, either by programming the computer/timer or by course correction. Time has to go back before the Swan existed so that the fail-safe was never turned and the button never left unpressed.
Miss Hawkings appears to Desmond straight after he turns the key, i think she is crucial in some way in all of this.
Hawkings and Widmore appear to be fore-runners in the upcoming war, i'm unsure as to which side either is on, but they are both pushing for something to happen. Maybe, they are on opposing sides, this would make sense because Widmore calls Locke "special" and watches over him.
At first i thought Widmore was bad and Hawkings was good, but now i'm thinking vice versa. Widmore appears to be looking over Locke and has Abbadon keeping him out of harms way. Where as Hawking appears to be sending Locke as a proxy to be resurrected as the Man in Black (Flocke).
Hawking is definately a major player in setting up the loophole, i'm just wondering why, maybe she was trying to change the past so she could prevent gunning down her own son and this was the only way.
Any ideas???
I know i'm probably looking way too far into this and confusing myself, but if anyone can find any holes in this please let me know.
thanks for reading :)
