When we learned that Locke want to kill jacob there is one reason that i think would happened
I think the incident is when the survivors in 1977 eg jack, kate, sawyer etc, would sacrificed themselves by detonating the jughead bomb and i think that is why richard alpert said that he watch them all die and would stop the electromagnetism so the future would change and the 2004 jack, kate, sawyer and etc would land in los angeles and would not know anything about the island.
Locke is on a mission as he wants to change everything back to the way it is. I think that jacob in 2004 when oceanic 815 crashed was locke and his motto is 'whatever happened, happened'. but since everything has changed, jacob is not locke in 2008. locke, in my opinion, wants to be a leader of the island and keeps everything safe and killing the other jacob make it sense.
