I start from a question: what is the truce? We have seen that the others (Widmore, eloise, etc...) are armed as soldiers, but they don't seems so bad to want a war with other people over the island. Not in the 70s... so, why there is a truce? they have something that they wants to defend. The island? Not completely true, because they permit to Dharma to work over the island... The problem is that some parts of the island must be not explored or modified... so do they want to defend the temple??? no, it's something inside the temple... something around the jungle... and i think that it will concern the TREES...
Now we know the lost is a scifi show, so... do u know Orson Scott Card? Maybe on the island there was some kind of trees that is a sort of living being with a conscience... These trees have some straordinary properties to heal people from wounds (and maybe death)... but their spores come inside to the people and contaminate them... became a sort of symbiont that have a collective mind... this would explain the whispers in the forest... this would explain how locke talk with the island... and this would explain why the others wants to defend a part of the island... this part of the island is the part of the island where the ancient trees lived... this could explain why "horace throwing bombs" is a menace for the truce... this could explain why "the ostiles" attack horace and his girl... they are in a part of the forest with young trees.... This could explain why some people are healed (like locke, rose and ben) and what is the "illness" (we have seen that people that went to ! the temple and come back are not completely on their own)... This could explain why the hostiles wanted the body of dead people... they want to avoid the Dharma people discover the properties of trees on the island and that dead people are not dead people (not at all!)... Why Richard is not going older? because he was dead... maybe with the crash of the BlackRock and trees have been resurrected him...
Maybe Jacob is not a man, but the oldest tree... and Locke wanted to kill him because for some reason is not completely dominated by the will of the island... Locke is a special guy... it couldn't be a simple zombie... moreover they have choose the good shyamalayan as director of the latest episodes... and all of you know what his last movie was about...
