So, Kirk and the enterprise crew will find a mysterious island floating around in a galaxie far, far away (not the Star Wars one).
They land on this island (the Temple is the Enterprise). They realise that this place is the craddle of life in the UNIVERSE. The statue builders are the first human in the universe. They built a special device to move in time, but they have to exile a person to do so. This is how the first humans will come to Earth. They turn the wheel and they appear in Tunisia (maybe it was on an other planet before, but ever since Earth is hospitable, they now appear there).
So, back to our crew. They realise that the Island is deserted now and they decide to bring it to Earth.
BUT, Earth is not the same. The world is destroyed and in chaos. They send it back in time to prevent this. They realise that they have to replicate the way they came to the Island to save the Earth, so they bring the 815ers to the Island to save the planet.
Jack is to be the new Kirk and Locke the new Spock.
This is why Richard (Spock) is so obsessed with Locke and why Ben (Kirk) is with Jack.
The smoke monster is a cosmic creature like in Star Trek.
Lost will end with Spock saying that WHH and that they should go back to the future to make it better in the present...not the past ;P
