With the time travel lately I've seen alot about time loops being posted in the theories section. My theory(for lack of a better term) is that many or all of the main characters are the victims of their own self fulfilling prophecies:
The strongest case is against Locke. He told Richard in the 50's that he was sent by Jacob, and Richard followed up on the intel that John provided, which led Richard to believe the prophecy and then led the Others to have the expectation that John was chosen to be the leader.
Another example is Hurley. We start Hurley's story by seeing that he encounters the "numbers" while at Santa Rosa. He uses the numbers for his own gain and believes through a series of unfortunate events that the numbers must be cursed. Then we see that they appear on the island in the form of Rouseau's map, and then on the notorious Hatch. However in Season 5 we hear as Flight 316 is crashing the numbers on the distress signal being read in a voice that sounds like Hurley, and we see him notice the numbers being placed on the hatch as its being builr, leading Hugo to believe further in the curse. This leads me to believe that Hurley started the numbers frenzy by leaving the distress signal , which led to Sam hearing it etc...
Another example is with Ms. Hawking who went out of her way to ensure that WHH in regards to her son Daniel.
I hate to ramble but since the LOST was originall to be titled The CIRCLE it seemed prudent to lay this out, if it hasn't already. If it has then i apologize.
