As I contemplated Daniel's untimely death, and the likely-hood that Miles will have a posthumous conversation with him, thoughts of reincarnation entered my already overburdened head.
What if the time-loop that so many believe will manifest itself in this story doesn't happen only in the 1974-2007 iteration? What if the loop happens through reincarnated versions of the characters?
All of the characters manifest certain traits that they seem unable to change: Kate runs, Jack fixes, Sayid kills etc. Maybe they are unable to change and improve because they can't escape the Island story and move on. Could the Black Rock be an earlier version of flight 815 that crashed on the Island with earlier incarnations of the losties on it's crew? Does the journal from the Black Rock contain a similar chain of events from a different time? Widmore purchased the journal, and is now trying to effect a change in the story through violent intervention. Maybe he has important information gleaned from the journal to aid him.
John Locke appears to have been reborn as a new and confident leader-with-a-purpose. Maybe the other 815ners could benefit from a metaphoric electrical cord, and a new outlook on the situation.
