As the season gears itself down, I thought I'd throw together a little something that I think may be coming our way. With Locke.2 on his way to see Jacob with the intention of killing him, I believe that it may be now that we finally see who it is that becomes the ill fated Jacob, trapped in a circle of ash for, if not eternity, then a really really long time. And as we all know, seasonal death on lost means that it's about time for one of our dearly beloved to shuffle off this mortal coil.
So, for entertainments sake only, and completely spoiler free (I'm going on my knowledge of the show up to watching Follow the Leader) here are my odds for who dies, and who Jacob is.
Jacob (not in order... for suspense, not laziness, probably) ~
10/1 Horace Goodspeed -
There's something about Horace... since appearing with the blueprints to Jacob's cabin, everything about Horace's general demeanour must be carefully looked at. Often calm and logical in the right situations, he has already proven himself as a leader in the Dharma camp. Counting against his odds is the fact that he is, by all accounts, dead. Of course, being Lost, this only affects his chances slightly.
2/1 Locke -
Locke turns up at Jacob's cabin, finds that it is himself actually sitting in the chair. Would be an a bit of a shocker if Locke then decided to kill himself. I've never been a huge fan of Locke, and the thought of him trapped in a cabin for many years until he goes mad makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
4/1 Jack -
Originally Jack was a forerunner for being Jacob, but perhaps he has been through just enough rubbish at the moment to be allowed this punishment off. Jack has been heading downhill since deciding to answer that call from the freighter, hitting the bottle, constantly taking the wrong sides in decisions, and ultimately just being a bit of an arse. Season six should be our hero's great 'hurrah' and maybe with him being destined to be Jacob could bring a bit of a downer on the show. Although, it would make the character of Jacob all the more interesting.
40/1 Sawyer -
It's not going to be Sawyer. Please, don't even joke about it.
I liked the Sawyer of season one and two. Badass, his own boss, looking out for himself. I thought it was quite nice, Sawyer looking after Claire, him jumping off the helicopter to save the others on it; but this recent jump of him into the 'goody' Dharma leader was just a step too far away from the original Sawyer most of us loved from season one (also, I jumped in the air with joy when Sawyer punched Phil... not so much when he slapped Daniel). Him with Juliet is nice, sure, why not, but him then becoming Jacob, I see it as too big a jump.
3/1 Desmond -
Desmond turns out to be Jacob. He's dragged back to the island, away from Penny and his son, what's his reaction going to be? I think he would turn out to be exactly like the Jacob we have previously seen, albeit briefly. Most of the characters on our show die when their story, or life, has been resolved (The Variable filled in our information of Daniel, then killed him off, the same goes for Eko, Charlie, Michael, and, err, Arzt, who all were killed off when they were 'complete'). Des found Penny, had a child, helped out Daniel off island, and then was shot. His story could have been done, finished. But he's alive, and I'd be suprised if that's the last we see of the one Daniel called 'special'. Plus, on a personal level, I was pretty annoyed that Daniel was killed. My favourite character was Daniel, but before he came, it was Desmond, so it would give us all the promise of Des back for season six.
2/1 Daniel -
Bring Daniel back please.
Or! Final scene of season six, black rock crashes on the island (or "poofs" on) and Daniel steps off. Skinny black tie and all. So, TPTB, if you are reading, zombie season seven, Daniel gets the lead role, please.
8/1 Sayid -
Highly unlikely that a wood cabin (even with magic ash outside it) would be able to keep in ninja-action Sayid. A unique twist if it happened, but Sayid wouldn't need to say 'Help me', in that time he'd have your head off with his toenail.
50/1 Phil -
Phil's an arse, it won't be Phil.
51/1 Radzinsky -
As above.
20/1 Hurley -
Hurley has always been a comic relief, but actually being Jacob may be like giving Jack a flashback where he flunks clown college. Or Ben as a rodeo clown. But on the flip side Hurley can see dead people (probably) and seems to have birds squeal his name out, and is subject to the 'curse of the numbers' so perhaps there is more to Hurley, and the Hurley bird, than we previously thought.
250/1 Jin -
Akin to opening the coffin at the end of season four and seeing Arzt. No no.
25/1 Richard -
I'm convinced now Richard is one of the island's earliest inhabitants, but still really more of the island caretaker. He does a lot of work, but rarely will be given any medal of honour for outstanding contribution.
10/1 A Hanso? -
Would it be too big of a shock if it turned out that one of the Hanso's was Jacob? Close ties to the island, obviously they are very aware of the properties of the island, would sort out any problem of wondering which current character 'becomes' Jacob.
I think those are all my bets there for who I think could be Jacob. And now, for the death...
Danger Danger! High Voltage!
2/1 Sawyer -
Ah, the curse of being happy on Lost... he's killed the man he was hunting for years, Locke's father, and has finally achieved some sort of happiness on the show. He's a changed man. WARNING WARNING WARNING. I'd keep an eye on Sawyer in the finale, he's my favourite to be killed.
3/1 Kate -
Kate was going to be my favourite to be killed; killing her would finish any love triangles in the final season that team Darlton must read up on that people are just about done with hearing about now as we go into the final season. She became a mother, and lived happily off island, finally no longer on the run. The only reason she is not the favourite for me to die is because she has to finish her quest to find Claire. Although, a heart felt death bed message to either Jack or Sawyer about finding Claire would give either character the best season to come, I would definitely think. Let's keep Kate, give her something good for season six, and make that finding Claire.
4/1 Juliet -
Are we done with Juliet? Probably, but I'm sure we'd miss her, especially after an amazing season she has had so far. Although, TPTB seem to be in the habit of killing beloved characters... a moments thought for Daniel please... but Juliet always provides the other side of the argument you sometimes need in meetings between Sawyer et al.
5/1 Hurley -
Killing Hurley would sort of be like, I'm going to say it, poo-ing in the Queen's hand. It's unneccesary, and will only cause great offence.
8/1 Sayid -
With Nadia dead, Sayid really could be killed without little problem, but as a character who really hasn't had much about them for a long time, I don't think we'll be losing him anytime soon.
12/1 Ben -
Scary though it may seem, Ben could definitely be at risk of dying.
15/1 Jin/Sun -
I really don't like Sun anymore, she's gotten arrogant, self-driven, and I don't like it. Leaving Ji Yeon was the last straw. Like a streamroller with blinkers on, that's running on fumes. I would like Sun dead. Done. Said. Jin dying would just make Sun all the more unbearable, so please, TPTB, let's not have that.
80/1 Miles -
He's made it along with Frank as being a Freighty who is still alive, and I don't see him being killed anytime soon. He's taken over from Sawyer as the satirical node in the show, and he's pivitol in that role at the moment, and we will need him season six. If he makes it past the season finale, he'll make it to the end of the show. We've had his backstory, he's the new Sayid, he's here for good.
100/1 Jack -
Jack is not dying. No chance. Characters die when we are done with them (sorry Libby!) and unfortunately Jack has been having a rough time as of late. In the latest episode Kate had a go at him for acting more like Locke than ever. Season six is going to be Jack completely getting his groove back. He is the hero of the show, and every hero has his hamatia, or fatal flaw, and for the best, we are all sick of Jack's, and we need our hero back now, more than ever with Locke hanging off the rails.
So, for entertainments sake only, and completely spoiler free (I'm going on my knowledge of the show up to watching Follow the Leader) here are my odds for who dies, and who Jacob is.
