Is Locke the new Ben? Is Locke Super Nasty?
Ben has been afraid of Locke since he met him. It’s obvious that Ben fears Locke will replace him as leader of the others. We can also agree that Ben is nasty. What made him nasty? (1) A bad dad, (2) almost dying, and (3) revival by whatever was in the temple. We’re also told Ben won’t remember his past and will always be an Other.
I think Locke trumps Ben in every category. (1) Locke’s dad was worse than Ben’s. (2) Locke didn’t almost die; he actually died. And, (3) Locke was revived by … Something.
So, if Ben is nasty, does that give Locke the potential to be Super Nasty? I mean, Ben seemed like a good kid. He didn't like Dharma too much or his father (who would?), but he wasn't killing people off. Something changed him to become Nasty. For 4-1/2 seasons, Locke was established as a good man. He cares. How much of a mindgame would it be to break that down and turn him Super Nasty? Make him the new Ben Linus?
Locke doesn’t just say he just wants to reveal the Jacob (the Man Behind the Curtain) to be a fake as he believes; he wants to kill him. He lies to Sun. He doesn’t care about the people (Losties) he always strived to protect. Just like Ben, he wants Power. Richard had wished for better leader than Linus, but he doesn't seem to keen on John Locke V.2.0.
When they were walking to Jacob's cabin and Locke told Ben his plan, I thought, “Locke is an idiot. Why would he tell him he plans to kill Jacob?” Then it hit me...I think he told him because now Locke has become the master manipulator. Ben thinks he is playing Locke (he always has), but maybe Locke is now playing him. I think when Ben fell in the hole and met up with Smokie, Locke was up above laughing his butt off. He knew exactly what was happening. He was just playing the game.
I'm thinking Locke is a bit like what Dave Bowman becomes is 2001-2010...a combination of Locke and ... something....something Super Nasty.
