This is the second time I have posted this , the last one didn't show up but good thing is I got to think about this more, and Someone else had the same idea which is cool So Big ups to seven .. but here goes my take.
The Long Con has been used several times in LOST, and everyone seems suspect, we don't know who is good who is bad but the Light Dark themes can not be ignored. The scene that opened the finale was VERY important I think that it was setting the stage for the game that is LOST. It gave us the rules and the two players Jacob and Dark Shirt Guy(herein refered to as DSG. Here we go! What we know.
1) Jacob is the one that brings people to the island to prove his point that people can progress.
2) DSG is tired of the game wishes that Jacob would just stop already and wants to kill him because then the game will be over. DSG can't not physically kill Jacob and vice versa. They are equals (shown in the hyrogliphics under the temple they sat eye to eye.
3) We see that Jacob has had a hand literally in bringing people to the island. He is like the Lost island scout visiting people touching them and some how summoning them to the island even Locke.
4) since we know that there is a Jacob we also know that Richard answers to him
5) And we know that Locke is Special despite the fact that it looks like Locke is the one that started that rumor. But he is walking and has escaped death several times on the island.. and off.
6) Richard "healed" Ben because it is what Jacob wanted! Ben would ALWAYS be one of them.
7) DSG was able to duplicate Lockes body and inhabit it.
8) Christian's body was never found, it wasn't in the casket.
9) Jacob lives in the foot not the cabin
10) Jacob can leave the island whenever he wants and come back.
Taking over a Body---
Ok so here is the theory. This entire Jacob being killed thing was a long con staged by none other than JACOB HIMSELF! Why would he want to be killed. Well because maybe he is not in that body! What if Jacob did not heal Ben, what if he assumed his body. I think that when a body is inhabited that part of it is unaware of the possession and part of it is the spirit which is inhabiting. Their Will is controlled like a puppet but their mind is free and alive. Like when Charles ordered him to kill Danielle and alex in 88 his will would not allow him to kill an innocent child. And Ben tried to kill Penny his will would not allow him to kill a mother, not the fact that he lost his own mother.
Loopholes ---
Charles told Ben that the island would not let him return it was against the rules. Ben said Charles broke the rules by killing his daughter. Maybe the island was free to kill Alex because the esence of Ben was Jacob, there was a loophole. Ben also found his way back to the island through a loophole. He was able to return becaus the island COULD not deny JACOB access. Ben makes it back because of this. Ben is also judged and not killed, why because his body is his but his will is being controlled DSG/ Smokie can not kill him, possibly not knowing why he threatens him via Dead Daughter Alex to do what Locke says. Yet another loophole.
Wrong but it had to be Done for the sake of the Con----
So how many times has Ben said, "It had to be done". really !! Well Jacob does the same thing allowing Nadia to be killed or saving Sayid (however you want to see it) Healing Locke it seems when Locke falls out the window knowing ultimately that Locke was going to die and be taken over by DSG to kill him. regardless of what we think now, Jacob has healed Locke several times finding him to be without fault. Jacob allowed Ben did get cancer his body is still subject to harm, but there was also a fantastic surgeon to patch him back together again. And Yes I believe that Jacob had Sayid kill and lie and say it was Widmore so that sayid would shoot young ben in 77, so that He could assume his body.
Could it be that Jacob is the mater manipulator of them ALL? Could it be why Ben is so creepy to us,a nd why it seems at time that he is good, but he does such weird seemingly bad things all for the sake of the island?
Finally the theme of dark and light is important because DSG even says they always do the same thing, they are evil beyond help. Dark has always won. Even in the title sequence dark has seemed to over power the white LOST, however in the finally the Backdrop along with the words were white, there was only a hint of grey outline on the LOST. COuld it be that Jacob has finally got the intended result because of his "death" BTW I don't believe that Locke in the silver Box is Locke this is why. Christian's body was never found was not in the casket, so why would Lockes body be? If DSG took Lockes identity, why would he leave Lockes body to be found? Maybe it is Christian's body disgarded after DSG no longer needed it.
