Jacob says to the fake Locke, "their coming" as a warning that the good guys (our Losties stuck in 77) are coming to fight for him. They all collectively agreed to sacrifice themselves. That selfless act proves them to be perfect for Jacob and his wanting to prove good does exist in man. Jack will, in the end of season 6, take over Jacob's role in the struggle between good and evil.
I believe this because Ben told Jack "get a suitcase and take whatever you want from this life because you're never coming back" and Jack replies with a totally believable, "Good."
So I think that finally Jack now believes that he has a purpose on the Island and whatever it is he is ready to commit to it 100% even if it means killing himself in 1977 to do it.
Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Sayid, all touched by Jacob in the past like Jack was. In a non confrontational "you have a choice" way. Unlike the black smoke monster/evil guy that impersonates Locke who uses fear and hate to get what he wants. Jacob didn't tell his chosen ones "hey guys your special and one day you will fight for me in a battle for good and evil" because that would take away free will and Jacob, as the good guy ,is all about free will. They shouldn't have left the island, but he let them...free will...they returned to do the right thing...free will.
But what I'm confused about is who, besides black smoke guy/fake Locke and Ben are the bad guys? Clearly Whidmore and Elly are trying to help the Losties set things right. The Others with Richard seemed to be protecting Jacob and the Temple. The Dharma people could be the bad guys I suppose, but they are all dead in the future unless they lived because of the H-Bomb. Perhaps in the alternate future that was created Phil-Horace etc. are bad guys fighting for control of the island for it's properties and potential to exploit those properties.
I love the addition of Ilana and I can't wait to find out more of her story. I sure hope this hiatus passes quickly. Love this forum!!!
