Ok, this theory may be way out there, but I like it because it's both satisfying and tells why our losties were on flight 815. It's a pretty complex theory but it all starts at the incident.
In 1977 we have the incident without the losties. No nuke, just the drilling. They drill into the cavern and have to bury it in cement and create the hatch and the button. Events progress as we've always believed. Desmond comes to the island pushes the button. But this incident has side effects. It causes bad things to start happening to people that shouldn't have happened. These events cause Charlie to become a druggie, Kate to kill her dad, Jin becomes a jerk, etc. Then we get 815. The losties are brought to the island and go back in time, drop the bomb and prevent the incident.
Okay, that's the simplest explanation, now here's why I think that that is how it was supposed to happen. We've always thought that you can't change the past. Whatever happened, happened. Right? Well, what if the incident wasn't supposed to happen. Charlie, for example, wasn't supposed to be a druggie. He was supposed to be the good guy we see die at the end of season 3. Same with Jin. All the people that we've seen "redeemed" on the island were supposed to be good people, but the incident changed their paths. So the universe (course correction) brings them all back to stop the incident. This means that when we flash to the pland landing in LAX, Charlie will be alive and not a druggie, Jin will be a good husband, etc. Notice not everyone has had their redemption moment. Sawyer for example might still be the con-artist he was.
The basic idea is this, the universe isn't going to try and course correct what the losties have done. Instead, the losties have been part of course-correction for what Dharma did by drilling in at the Swan station.
What do you think?
In addition, perhaps Juliet blowing up the bomb was similar to Desmond turning the fail-safe key. This will give Juliet knowledge of both timelines in season 6 as she tries to fix whatever problem occurs in season 6.
